Panasonic unveils next-gen full-frame mirrorless for hybrid shooters

Panasonic Lumix S1RIIPanasonic Lumix S1RII

Designed for both professional photographers and videographers, the new Panasonic Lumix S1RII raises the bar with its 44.3MP full-frame sensor, L2 Technology engine, and the first-ever 8K video recording in a Lumix camera.

The Lumix S1RII features a newly developed 44.3MP full-frame sensor that delivers natural, high-resolution rendering with an impressive 14 stops of V-Log/V-Gamut dynamic range. The camera’s extended ISO range from 80-51,200 (expandable to 40-102,400) ensures outstanding low-light performance. For photographers demanding even greater detail, the 177MP High-Resolution Mode captures intricate textures with remarkable clarity.

For videographers, the Lumix S1RII offers 8.1K (17:9) and 8K (16:9) at 30p 10-bit, C4K/4K 120p 10-bit, and internal 5.8K ProRes RAW HQ recording. The internal ProRes RAW HQ recording delivers superior image fidelity with minimal compression, preserving rich detail and dynamic range. By enabling high-bitrate recording directly to CFexpress Type B cards or external USB-SSDs. Dual Native ISO maximizes dynamic range in different lighting conditions and 32-bit float audio, recording when paired with the DMW-XLR2 microphone adapter, ensure professional-grade output.

The Open Gate recording mode allows creators to capture the full sensor readout at 6.4K 30p 10-bit, providing maximum flexibility for reframing in post-production. This feature ensures that content can be optimized for multiple aspect ratios, making it ideal for cinematic workflows, social media, and immersive formats.

Autofocus performance is enhanced with the camera’s 779-point Phase Hybrid AF system, which leverages AI-powered subject detection for precise tracking of humans, animals, vehicles, trains, and airplanes. Blackout-free 40fps burst shooting with AFC/AFS enables photographers to capture fast-moving subjects with exceptional clarity. The camera also incorporates up to 8.0-stop 5-axis Body I.S (depending on lens used) for maximum image stability.

The new camera has a 5,760k-dot OLED live view finder for sharp and detailed composition, along with a new tilt and free-angle rear monitor for flexible framing. The new monitor can be tilted up and down along the optical axis and can be rotated freely while tilted without interfering with HDMI or USB cables.

A Photo/Video/S&Q switch allows seamless mode transitions, while Real Time LUT support enables custom in-camera color grading. The Crop Zoom and Hybrid Zoom functions extend the camera's reach while maintaining image quality.

For professionals prioritizing efficiency and durability, the camera includes dual card slots supporting CFexpress Type B and SD, and a Shutter Closing Function to protect the sensor when powered off. Workflow is further enhanced with Lumix Flow App integration, Capture One tethering support and Adobe Camera to Cloud. The magnesium alloy body is sealed against dust and splashes but also freezing conditions, ensuring reliability in demanding environments.

The Lumix S1RII is built for creators who demand the highest standards in both photography and videography. With unparalleled image quality, class-leading autofocus, and groundbreaking video capabilities.
