Mille Johansson looked set for a convincing victory in the JWRC class at Rally Sweden 2025. After the first ten stages, he had built up a comfortable lead of 54.2 seconds over Australian Taylor Gill. But a fateful mistake on Kolksele SS11 changed everything.
Johansson misjudged a corner, ended up on a snowbank, and lost nearly two minutes before returning to the road. His chances of victory were gone, but the Swedish talent didn't give up. He made up much of the lost time on the remaining nine stages and showed his class by being the fastest on all stages except the final sprint into Red Barn Arena.
Taylor Gill from Australia, of course, could only defend his lead to the victory on Sunday. But the man from "down under" was humbly aware that Mille's mistake was what paved the way for the Victorian.
"I got a big lead and could use it in my remaining driving because, to be honest, we weren't near matching Mille's speeds," said Gill after the finish.
Despite the impressive comeback, Johansson had to settle for second place, 22.8 seconds behind Taylor Gill. Overall, he was the fastest on 12 of the 18 stages over the weekend, which still highlights the qualities he showed behind the wheel.
