Leica Camera AG has revolutionized the world of photography on more than one occasion. One of these sensations was the introduction of the Leica M series in 1954, which continues to make history with M cameras and lenses to this day. One of these legendary M lenses has now been further developed to incorporate the latest high-end technology while retaining its compact and lightweight design: the Leica Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH. for even more flexibility and freedom when taking pictures.
With its standard focal length of 50 mm, the new Summilux-M is suitable for almost any photographic situation. Like all M lenses, it offers unmistakably high image quality. The new Summilux-M exploits the full potential of new camera sensors to deliver exceptionally high contrast and detail, even in low light. In addition, 11 instead of 9 aperture blades provide visibly rounder bokeh.
The closest focusing distance has also been extended from 70 cm to 45 cm. This has been made possible by a double cam mechanism specially developed by Leica engineers. As a result, the angle of rotation of the distance ring has been significantly increased compared to the previous model, making focusing even more precise across the entire setting range. At the same time, neither the size nor the sensitivity of the focus ring has been changed, making the lens particularly comfortable to use, even when focusing in the extended close-up range. Up to 70 centimetres, focusing is carried out as usual using the rangefinder on the digital and analogue M cameras. To focus in the extended close-up range between 70 and 45 centimetres, it is necessary to use the Live View on the screen, the Visoflex or the Leica FOTOS app after a slight resistance.
Like the 35 mm model of the high-speed Summilux-M series, the Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH. has been technically and visually refined. The lens hood also has a round design with a focal length of 50 mm. Directly integrated into the lens, it can be screwed on or off at any time with just a flick of the wrist. Like its predecessor, the new Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH. is available in silver or black anodized finish.
This classic focal length is suitable for all current and future M cameras, like the high resolution Leica M11 and the new Leica M11 Monochrom. In combination with the M-Adapter L, the Summilux-M also enables photography and filming with the Leica SL2 and SL2-S. This is system compatibility "Made by Leica".
The Leica Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH. is available from the Leica Store Amsterdam, the Leica Store Lisse and authorized Leica dealers in the Netherlands. The retail price of the Summilux-M lens will be €4,550.00 including VAT for the black version and €4,750.00 including VAT for the silver version.
