Harvest season with mountain view in the heart of Sweden

The UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy Östersund/Jämtland Härjedalen invites you to a culinary experience during the harvest festival, 11-12 September 2021. More than twenty local farmers open up their farms and welcome guests to taste artisan food and buy handicraft from the region around Åre/Östersund. Treat yourself to one of Sweden’s most awarded cheese and get to know the local food artisans on a roadtrip through the colorful countryside.

“Let’s go on a fika trip around Jämtland Härjedalen!” is one of the most popular sayings you can hear during the harvest festival Skördefest Jämtland Härjedalen. The festival takes place annually during a week-end in September. Swedish Fika, the delightful custom enjoying a coffee and a treat with friends is so well-established that it’s used as both a noun and a verb, can be had indoors or out in nature. (Visit Sweden) During the festival there are plenty of pop up fika-places out in the countryside where locals and travelers experience home baked delicacies and traditional food in an authentic environment.

Many locals consider Skördefest J/H as one of the best happenings of the year. The festival is all about experiencing one of Europeans cleanest food production by taking a scenic drive and visiting farmers around the region. Have a chat with the local food artisans, eat traditional specialties right on the farm and stock up with freshly harvested vegetables, charcuterie, cheese, bread and many more delicacies. Some farmers even provide bed & breakfast opportunities and fun activities for both kids and adults.

Skördefest J/H is the perfect experience to explore Jämtland Härjedalen in the middle of the harvest season, probably the best time of the year. It’s now where the mosquitos have disappeared and the landscape is bursting in golden colors, perfect for a couple of days in nature whilst enjoying local gastronomy. What we would recommend? Combine your stay with hiking, cycling, kayaking or a city stay in Östersund or Åre.
