Rokaglim Forest House Rather than creating a conventional hotel or resort, the founders are developing Rokaglim as an Arctic forest homestead. The river, woodland, local history and changing seasons will shape the stay, with a focus on privacy, personal hospitality and time spent in nature. A great deal of care has gone into each stage of Rokaglim’s development, guided by the existing buildings and surrounding forest. Original details from the 100-year-old barn are being preserved and incorporated into the design, while each forest house has been positioned to give guests a strong sense of immersion in the landscape.The forest houses combine Scandinavian design with views of the surrounding woodland, while the restored homestead will provide a cosy shared space for meals, conversation and relaxation by the open fire.

Rokaglim builds on several years of experience in international tourism and hospitality. Experiences will be developed with local hosts and entrepreneurs, giving guests opportunities to discover the landscape, culture and changing seasons through the people who know the area best.

Rokaglim is led by Joakim Frederiksen, founder of the project and CEO of Northern Lodges. A local entrepreneur and firefighter, Frederiksen is developing Rokaglim around personal hospitality and experiences connected to the landscape, food culture and outdoor life of Norrbotten.
“For me, it comes down to something quite simple: creating a place where people feel welcome and cared for, while at the same time discovering something they didn’t quite expect,” says Joakim Frederiksen.
Fredrik is joined by partners with complementary experience in hospitality, regional business and destination development. Lisa Hellmér, owner of Pensionatet in Piteå, brings experience of developing a small B&B into an established local meeting place, with personal hospitality and a strong connection to the community at its core. Family-owned Skoogs Handel, which operates KUST Hotel & Spa in Piteå, contributes generations of regional entrepreneurship and hotel experience. The group sees Rokaglim as part of the continued development of Piteå as a destination.
“We see this as an important investment for Piteå and the region’s tourism industry. The sector is growing, and demand for unique accommodation and memorable experiences continues to increase. At the same time, we have great confidence in Joakim Frederiksen and the team behind the project. They have demonstrated both the determination and the ability to turn ideas into reality,” says Christina Skoog of KUST Hotel & Spa.
Sune Malmström, whose family is behind Stockholm’s Diplomat Collection, contributes experience from independent luxury hotels and the development of distinctive properties. Fredrik Högberg and Sammy Pergament, founders of Row Partners, bring expertise in entrepreneurship, investment and business development as Rokaglim moves from concept to opening.
The name Rokaglim draws on both the place and the experience of being there. Rok comes from Rokån and Roknäs, while also echoing the Swedish word rök – smoke – evoking the warmth of an open fire, home and hearth, and a sense of roots and belonging. Glim refers to light: reflections on the water, sunlight filtering through the trees and the northern lights – fleeting moments of discovery and wonder.
