Attachments manufacturers Epiroc and Genesis Attachments and equipment rental company Kanamoto join the Open-S Alliance

New members in Open-S

Epiroc (Sweden), Genesis Attachments (USA), and Kanamoto Co. Ltd (Japan) join the Open-S Alliance. The Open-S industry standard for automatic couplers continues to gain supporters, as the benefits for the construction and the demolition industry with a standardized coupler interface are convincing. Excavators can use work tools of different brands that follow the standard, and you avoid being restricted by proprietary solutions. The result is a more efficient and flexible use of machines and attachments. During 2025 the Open-S Alliance has grown significantly with nine new companies joining the organization and now has 23 members globally.

The three new members represent well-known brands, the industry-leading attachment manufacturers Epiroc and Genesis Attachments, and Kanamoto, a large equipment rental company that offers solutions for the construction and civil engineering industries. The number of members of the Open-S Alliance has grown with nine companies so far this year and now have a total of 23 members. It has been an international expansion with companies from Asia Pacific, Europe and North America joining, which shows that the idea to create a global open industry standard for automatic couplers and work tools is continuing to gain momentum.

Epiroc´s hydraulic attachment tools business line develops, manufactures and markets excavator attachments such as breakers, cutters, drum cutters, grapples or pulverizers for applications in construction, deconstruction, utilities, civil engineering, waste management, mining or quarrying. Products are manufactured in Germany, Sweden, India and Korea.

The Group joins the Open-S Alliance with its recent acquisition ACB+. The company is a leading French partner since 1963, that designs and manufactures couplers and attachments for hydraulic excavators (from 500 kg to 100 t) and loaders. Integrated into the Epiroc Group in 2024, ACB+ now offers an expanded and innovative range to meet the full spectrum of needs in the construction industry. Epiroc/ACB+ joins the Open-S Alliance as an Associate member.

“By joining the Open-S Alliance, we reinforce our commitment to delivering open, compatible solutions that empower customer freedom of choice. This shared standard is not just about technology – it´s about building a more efficient, connected, and sustainable industry,” says Predrag Petrovic, Vice President Business Line Hydraulic Attachment Tools at Epiroc.

Genesis Attachments, an NPK Company, is a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-quality hydraulic mobile shears, grapples, concrete processors and specialty attachments for the scrap processing, demolition, material handling and offshore decommissioning industries. Genesis is based in Superior, WI, USA. Genesis Attachments joins the Open-S Alliance as an Associate member.

“The standards set forth by Open-S are a foundation to maintain the best interests of the owners and operators, which perfectly coincide with Genesis’ focus. The information shared through Open-S will ensure that Genesis can continue to offer advanced attachment solutions that seamlessly integrate with supplementary equipment in the field“, says Roger Johnson, Director of Engineering.

Kanamoto Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Sapporo, Hokkaido) operates a business centered on the rental of construction equipment and owns approximately 810,000 rental assets across about 1,100 equipment types. Through its construction equipment rental business, the company is actively promoting the adoption of Open-S standard attachments, contributing to their expansion not only in Japan but also across Southeast Asia and the Oceania region. Kanamoto welcomes the broader use of various attachments compatible with the Open-S standard. Kanamoto Co., Ltd. joins the Open-S Alliance as a Supporting member.

“Kanamoto places great importance on improving the compatibility of hydraulic excavator attachments used at construction sites. By joining the Open-S Alliance, we expect to create an environment where attachments can be used regardless of model or manufacturer, thereby enhancing user convenience.

We also believe that the use of common standards will contribute to greater operational efficiency as a rental company. While incorporating feedback from job sites, Kanamoto will continue to collaborate with other members of the Open-S Alliance to develop innovative attachments that enhance productivity and safety on construction sites”, says Jun Watanabe, Member of Board of Directors and Division Manager, Construction Equipment Rental Division, Kanamoto Co., Ltd.

“We are thrilled to welcome Epiroc and Genesis - both well-known brands and benchmarks for quality—as members of the organization and supporters of our vision for an open industry standard. It is a true pleasure and an honour to welcome them on board, and I’m convinced their participation will help propel the next phase of our growth. With Kanamoto, the Open-S Alliance welcomes yet another member in Japan, a testament to the international expansion of our ambition to create a global standard. The new members further underscores the momentum behind Open-S and emphasize the importance of interoperability and customer choice”, says Stefan Stockhaus, Chairman of the Board of the Open-S Alliance.
