New: SAMYANG Prima Series AF 16mm F2.8 P FE and AF 85mm F1.8 P FE

Transcontinenta Group, LK Samyang distributor for the Benelux, Germany and Austria, is pleased to announce the introduction of two new lenses in the Prima Series, tailored for hybrid content creators and photography enthusiasts: the Samyang AF 16mm F2.8 P FE and the Samyang  AF 85mm F1.8 P FE for the Sony E-mount.  The release of these lenses expands the Prima Series, which is recognized for its exceptional optical performance and portability. 

Following the earlier release of the Samyang AF 35mm F1.4 P FE in 2024, these latest lenses complete the Prima Series trio, which now covers a universal range of focal lengths: wide (16mm), standard (35mm), and medium-telephoto (85mm), catering to the diverse creative requirements of photographers and cinematographers.

Your first prime lens: Samyang Prima series

The Prima Series is made for beginners starting out in photography and video, designed to be the lens you keep coming back to. It’s lightweight, compact, and easy to carry, yet still delivers strong optical performance—great for hybrid creators learning the ropes. The AF 16mm F2.8 P FE is a compact and lightweight ultra wide-angle prime that’s well-suited for vlogging or landscapes. The AF 35mm F1.4 P FE offers flexibility for daily shooting or travel, handling all kinds of subjects with ease. And the AF 85mm F1.8 P FE, the lightest in its class, brings a bright aperture and smooth bokeh that works especially well for portraits.

Beyond lightweight

Both lenses feature a compact, minimalist design that forgoes the traditional red ring, blending durability with simplicity. Built from LK Samyang’s proprietary high-strength engineering plastic, they offer a lightweight yet robust feel that maintains a premium impression. The newly designed focus ring adds to the experience with refined patterns and textures, improving both handling and overall usability.

AF 85mm F1.8 P FE, Lightweight medium tele for portraits

The AF 85mm F1.8 P FE lens is distinguished by its bright F1.8 aperture and compact design. It weighs only 272 grams and measures 71.5 mm, making it the lightest lens in its category according to internal research conducted by LK Samyang as of July 15, 2025. The lens features an optical design that includes three Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) elements and a 9-blade rounded aperture. These components deliver exceptional resolution, especially at portrait distances, while also producing a smooth, creamy bokeh. Additionally, the seamless transition between focused elements and the background adds emotional depth to each image, creating an immersive visual experience.

AF 16mm F2.8 P FE,  Compact ultrawide lens for everyday use

Measuring 70.5mm in length and weighing 207g, this lightweight lens offers exceptional portability and practicality. Its expansive 16mm field of view, coupled with a minimum focusing distance of 0.12m and a semi-macro capability of 0.33x, facilitates a wide range of shooting scenarios, including travel, landscapes, street photography, and close-up shots. When mounted on APS-C cameras, this lens provides an equivalent field of view of 24mm and approximately 0.5x macro magnification, further expanding your creative possibilities.

The AF 16mm F2.8 P FE and AF 85mm F1.8 P FE will be available soon through the Samyang dealers in the Benelux, Germany and Austria. Both lenses will have a recommended sales price of €399.00 including VAT.
