Ryanair to open direct service between Växjö and Riga

  • Ryanair announces Riga - Växjö Småland route launching on March 28, 2022.
  • Non-stop service to operate twice weekly.
  • First ever direct link between the two regions.

Flights will operate on Monday and Friday mornings with tickets already on sale for the new service.

Ryanair's Riga launch announcement comes after the successful launch of its Zadar service last summer, its re-launch of Gdansk and Alicante services and the London Stansted flights which will open the day before the Riga flights start.

Ryanair’s Director of Commercial, Jason McGuinness said:

“We are pleased to add this new route to Riga as part of our summer ‘22 schedule from Växjö Småland. This route will operate twice weekly for the summer season, starting from 28th March. Renowned for great museums and unique architecture, Riga is a great weekend break option with lots of cultural activities to choose from. Check out the lowest fares on Ryanair.com.”

Växjö Småland Airport Chief Commercial Officer Brett Weihart is ecstatic over the Riga announcement:

“Riga is a completely new destination for southern Sweden and it is fantastic that Ryanair have seen the potential in our region to open up this new twice weekly direct service. With the Monday & Friday schedule, Riga will be the perfect long weekend offering with an awesome range of tourist attractions. We also expect the route to offer people from Riga and surrrounding regions the chance to experience our beautiful natural environment, try our amazing food, marvel at the Kingdom of Crystal, visit the home of IKEA and do so much more. Even business travel over the week is possible with this fanstasic schedule."

"Before the impact of Covid-19 Växjö Småland Airport boasted flights to 23 destinations and although a number of those destinations are still yet to re-start we have seen 3 brand new destinations added to the list during 2021 and 2 new destinations already for 2022. Airlines are committing to the region like never before. No other regional airport in Sweden has so many destinations and this new route will add an extra 12 000 seats into Växjö Småland Airport each year creating an added boost for the local and regional economy."

Ryanair began operating to Växjö Småland Airport in 2007 and Riga will be their 5th route currently operating from Växjö Småland Airport. Växjö Småland Airport is Ryanair's largest regional airport in Sweden with only Stockholm Arlanda and Gothenburg having more destinations. Ryanair's long term committment to our region is evidence of the strong market demand for inbound and outbound travel to our region.
