Umeå-based Nil Medical AB was awarded the Patient’s Award 2026 for its Nil Medical Vestpack at the MedTech4Health Innovation Award. The Patient’s Award recognizes the innovation judged to make the greatest difference for patients, users, and citizens.

Nil Medical was one of three finalists at this year’s MedTech4Health Innovation Award in Stockholm, alongside Geras Solutions and Suturion.

“It was inspiring to be part of an event showcasing such strong innovation, and winning an award on top of that feels fantastic,” says Martin Hanberger, CEO and founder of Nil Medical.

Donation to a local patient organization
The Patient’s Award comes with a SEK 10,000 donation to a patient organization of the winner’s choice. Nil Medical chose Hope By Elvira, based in Luleå and well-known at Norrland University Hospital in Umeå.

”Our project started in collaboration with the pediatric oncology department at the hospital in Umeå and we are based here, so it felt natural to support a local and regional organization,” says Martin Hanberger.

“Hope By Elvira does truly meaningful and compassionate work. They are frequently present on the pediatric ward in Umeå, as well as very active in fundraising efforts. It feels good to be able to support them.”

Jury’s motivation for the Patient’s Award
“Nil Medical Vestpack receives the Patient’s Award for its ingenious and heartwarming way of giving children something invaluable: the freedom to move, play, and simply be children. With Nil Medical Vestpack, everyday life becomes easier, independence grows, and smiles become more frequent—for both children and parents. An innovation that shows how medical technology can not only save lives, but also make life more joyful.”

The main award, the MedTech4Health Innovation Award, was presented to Suturion, which received SEK 100,000 for its innovation, SutureTOOL.

Nil Medical receives business support from Umeå Biotech Incubator (UBI) and operates from UBI’s facilities in Umeå.
