Ingela Bergqvist is the new lab and community manager at Umeå Biotech Incubator. Umeå Biotech Incubator (UBI) has appointed Ingela Bergqvist as its new Lab and Community Manager. Holding a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology and bringing nearly 20 years of experience in preclinical drug development, she will oversee UBI's laboratory facilities and help strengthen support for the region's life science companies and innovators.
UBI provides advanced laboratory facilities and specialized infrastructure used by both incubator companies and external businesses. The facilities include Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratories, enabling work with Risk Class 2 biological agents.
In addition to laboratory space, UBI offers offices, seminars, networking events and other activities that bring together innovators, researchers and companies within life science and green biotech.
20 years' experience in preclinical drug development
In her new role, Bergqvist will be responsible for UBI's premises, work environment and laboratory operations. She will also serve as an important point of contact for the companies and innovators active within UBI's innovation community.
Bergqvist holds a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology and has extensive experience in preclinical drug development. She joins UBI from Lipigon Pharmaceuticals, where she most recently worked as a Research Assistant.

During my time at Lipigon, our laboratories were based at UBI for many years, and I experienced firsthand the value of being part of this environment, from the laboratory facilities to the proximity of other companies and entrepreneurs. I am excited to now contribute from a different perspective," says Ingela Bergqvist.
Strategic addition to the organization
For Peter Jacobsson, Operations Coordinator at UBI, the recruitment represents an important addition to the organization.

She brings extensive experience and a strong understanding of the needs of growing life science companies," says Peter Jacobsson.

UBI supports innovators and companies within life science through business development services, laboratory facilities and a strong network.
Through initiatives such as the EU-funded Life Science City project, UBI works to strengthen Umeå's position as a leading life science hub.
Since February 2026, UBI has been part of Uminova Innovation.
