Examples of transfer times
To give you an idea of the incredible speed of the new OWC Atlas USB4 CFexpress 4.0 Type B reader, here are some real-world examples: it takes just 6 minutes and 19 seconds to transfer 15,000 45 Megapixel RAW images plus the same number of JPEG images from a Canon R5C. This is approximately 1.02TB in size. It also takes just 5 minutes 38 seconds to capture 68 minutes of 6K Blackmagic RAW video in Q0 compression at 30fps from the BMPCC 6K Pro and 5 minutes 51 seconds to capture 23 minutes of 8K N-RAW HQ video at 60fps from a Nikon Z9.
Using a standard USB 3.2 (10Gb/s) reader, the transfer speed is much slower. It takes up to 25 minutes and 11 seconds for the pictures, 24 minutes and 23 seconds for the Blackmagic video and 24 minutes and 10 seconds for the N-RAW video. OWC offers an in-between solution also with the OWC Atlas FXR CFexpress Thunderbolt Reader. This fast reader takes 11 minutes 45 seconds to transfer RAW and JPEG images, 10 minutes 46 seconds for Blackmagic video and 11 minutes 2 seconds for N-RAW video to the computer.
