NEW: Leica Q3. The next generation compact full-frame camera

New Leica Q3 camera

The Transcontinenta Group, distributor Leica for the Netherlands, presents the third generation of the successful Leica Q family, the Leica Q3.

This family of full-frame, fixed-focal-length cameras is characterized by high-quality craftsmanship, a timeless, sleek design and ease of use. Since 2015, they have been highly regarded worldwide by photographers, creative professionals and those in front of the camera. The new Leica Q3 camera delivers perfect photo and video results; equipped with one of the fastest lenses on the market with integrated macro mode and a host of new features, it represents the next evolutionary step in this unique camera segment.

Exceptional image quality thanks to 60-megapixel sensor and Summilux lens

At the heart of the Leica Q3 is the new BSI CMOS sensor with Triple Resolution Technology. Raw images in DNG format or processed JPEG files with a perfect look can be created straight out of the camera at a resolution of 60, 36 or 18 MP. Shooting at 60MP captures the finest details and textures. Shooting with 36 or 18 MP allows faster camera operation, longer image sequences and smaller file sizes. The Leica Q3 uses the full size of the sensor for all resolutions with a sensitivity range from ISO 50 to 100,000 and the latest generation of the Maestro Series processor with L2 Technology ensures excellent operating speeds.

The design of the high-speed Leica Summilux 28 mm f/1.7 ASPH. is an optical masterpiece. With its integrated macro mode, it allows close-up shots from a minimum focusing distance of 17 cm. In addition to its high resolution, this 3rd generation member of the Q family also offers an extended digital zoom. This allows the user to zoom to focal lengths of 28, 35, 50, 75 and now 90 mm. Two new practical assistants, Leica Perspective Control (LPC) and Leica Dynamic Range (LDR), ensure perfect JPEG images without any post-processing.

All-new autofocus system with phase detection and DFD.

The Leica Q3 autofocus system has also undergone significant development. A new hybrid phase detection autofocus system ensures extremely fast and accurate focusing and tracking of subjects. In addition to high-precision contrast-type autofocus, the DFD system and phase-detection autofocus, combined with intelligent scene recognition, help to produce sharp and brilliant images, all of which are displayed clearly and crisply in the new 5.76 megapixel OLED viewfinder.

The new 3-inch, high-resolution, tiltable touch screen with a high-quality tilting mechanism offers a unique range of viewing angles and opens up even more creative possibilities for photo and video shooting. In addition, the Leica Q3 is protected against dust and splash water thanks to its IP52 certification.

A marvel of connectivity

The Leica Q3 continues to impress with its seamless and fast connectivity via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The camera is equipped with advanced MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology, which has increased the transfer speed to the Leica FOTOS app by up to 10 times compared to the previous model, taking the mobile creative workflow to the next level. With a stable connection and high data transfer rates to the Leica FOTOS app, it is now possible to upload videos from the camera to a smartphone or import special 'Leica Looks' for beautiful JPEG images. Different connection modes from 'Eco' to 'Performance' improve the mobile workflow and power management of the Leica Q3. With Apple's "Made for iPhone® and iPad®" certification and the included Leica FOTOS cable, the Leica Q3 is the ideal tool to express the creative vision of the photographer who uses it every day.

With the ability to record video at 8k resolution and highly efficient codecs such as H.265 and Apple's ProRes, the powerful Leica Q3 now meets the needs of all content creators. External devices such as gimbals, power banks and display recorders can be connected directly via USB-C and HDMI. Tethered shooting with Capture One or the Adobe Lightroom plug-in is also supported via the USB-C cable connection, further enhancing the capabilities of this compact digital camera.

Wireless charging and a host of new accessories

Completely wireless charging is now possible with the new Leica Charging Pad and separate camera hand grip. This stylish charging pad conveniently recharges the Q3's new high-performance BC-SCL6 battery and many other Qi-compatible devices.

The Leica Q3 offers maximum freedom when it comes to composing images, but the new accessories also provide a wide range of options for creating an individual look. Leather protectors, lens caps, retro-look lens hoods, thumb rests, soft release buttons and flash shoe covers are also available in three different colours.

Pricing and availability

The Leica Q3 will be available soon at the Leica Store Amsterdam, the Leica Store  Lisse and authorized Leica dealers in the Netherlands. The recommended retail price will be €5,950.00 including VAT.
