MONOPAN 50: Timeless Black-and-White Film for the Analog Image Maker

To celebrate a century of 35mm photography, Leica Camera AG has launched the Leica MONOPAN 50, a new black-and-white film that captures the essence of analogue imaging. This ISO 50 film with 36 exposures harks back to the origins of photography and is designed for photographers who value craftsmanship and the slower pace of the past, trusting in their own vision and skill.

MONOPAN 50 is Leica's first true 35 mm film and pays homage to the revolutionary Leica I, which transformed photography in 1925. With ultra-fine grain, resolution of up to 280 line pairs per millimetre and spectral sensitivity of up to 780 nm, this film delivers exceptional sharpness and a stunning tonal range. Whether for large-format prints or detailed scans, this film showcases the full potential of Leica lenses.

What makes MONOPAN 50 unique is the pace at which it operates. The low ISO forces a slower approach, mindful handling of light, and the creative use of wide apertures – even in bright daylight. This creates the signature Leica bokeh effect: soft yet sharp. Thanks to its extended spectral sensitivity, the film is also ideal for infrared photography when used with Leica colour filters.

Made in Germany, MONOPAN 50 is compatible with all black-and-white developers and is perfect for landscape, architectural, cityscape and travel photography. Its retro-style packaging evokes the Leica heritage, while its technical capabilities enable photographers to capture new visual stories.

The Leica MONOPAN 50 black-and-white film will be available from 21 August 2025 at the Leica Store Amsterdam, the Leica Store Lisse and from authorised Leica dealers in the Netherlands. The recommended retail price is €12.00 including VAT.
