Hasselblad X2D 100C with 55mm XCD lens

The Transcontinenta Group, distributor for Hasselblad in the Benelux, announces the launch of the new Hasselblad X2D 100C camera and three new Hasselblad XCD lenses. After the revolutionary introduction of the world’s first mirrorless medium format digital camera, the X1D-50c, Hasselblad now introduces brand-new additions to its product portfolio, that inspires image makers in every detail to support their creative endeavours.

With an unrivalled merge of form and function, the new Hasselblad X2D 100C establishes itself as Hasselblad's flagship mirrorless medium format camera. A 100-megapixel CMOS sensor and advancements in image quality, focusing, stabilization, responsiveness, and storage, are built into iconic Scandinavian design. The X2D 100C combines groundbreaking engineering with a craftsman’s touch.

Utilizing a 100-megapixel medium format back-side illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor with a native ISO of 64, the Hasselblad X2D 100C captures vivid colour and detail. A 16-bit colour depth paired with 15 stops of dynamic range allows the X2D 100C to naturally capture highlights and shadows. In addition, the Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution (HNCS) optimizes colours to appear as authentically as the eye perceives them. Captured without any presets, artistic visions effortlessly come to life.

Main features

IBIS - Keep moments sharp

The X2D 100C features a 5-axis, 7-stop, in-body image stabilization (IBIS) to assist in capturing crisp handheld shots. To better control the size and weight of the X2D 100C, Hasselblad has built the most compact medium format IBIS solution on the market. It meets the stringent requirements a 100-megapixel medium format sensor has for stabilization, while ensuring the light-weight and portability of the camera.

A 100MP medium format sensor brings not only rich details, but also rigorous requirements for in-body stabilization. To keep the stabilization ability high but the size and weight low, Hasselblad had to develop their own custom stabilization solution. Adding a stabilization structure while ensuring the camera remains lightweight and portable was a challenging task. After hundreds of experiments and design iterations, Hasselblad engineers managed to develop an ultra-small voice coil motor. Hall sensors were placed inside the motor, further reducing the size of the system. This development made the front of the IBIS system approximately 30% smaller than that of similar products, and allowed the new IBIS system to fit within the compact X2D 100C camera body.

Every camera display excels

The 3.6-inch touch display of the X2D 100C presents a clear image even under strong light and tilts to gradual angles for diverse shooting needs. It supports a resolution of 2.36 million dots, bringing accurate, true-to-life colours to view. The new 1.08-inch coloured top display publishes the camera status and shooting parameters. The 5.76-million-dot OLED viewfinder supports 1.0x magnification, expanding the camera view for a clear and immersive experience. New electronic dioptre adjustment allows for a personally tailored view. With a clear, bright field of view, focus checking is accurate and more convenient than ever.

Reliable high-volume SSD storage built in
High-quality imaging demands considerable storage. A first for medium format cameras, the X2D 100C features a built-in 1TB SSD with a write speed up to 2370MB/s and a read speed up to 2850MB/s. Although ample storage is built-in, additional space can be added using the CFexpress Type B card slot. Thanks to its high-speed storage performance, the X2D 100C is able to continuously shoot 16-bit RAW images in Continuous Drive Mode, providing a stable and reliable continuous shooting experience.

Fast and accurate focussing
The X2D 100C utilizes Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) to capture fleeting moments in stunning clarity. 294 PDAF zones spread over the 100-megapixel sensor surface provide swift and accurate focusing at the press of a button.

An enriched experience combined with crafted elegance
The X2D 100C boasts faster shutter response times and decreased blackout time, ensuring important moments are quickly captured. The Hasselblad User Interface (HUI) is neat and optimized. Featuring intuitive touch control, simply slide and tap to access the most used operations. The X2D 100C is designed to facilitate an effortless flow to the creative process. The X2D 100C body shells are formed from solid blocks of aluminium alloy machined to sleek curves. While rooted in the Scandinavian design of the X System, the X2D 100C evolves with a new dark grey tone. This new colour reflects the convergence of light and shadows, subtle mixes that the X2D 100C expertly captures.

High-speed transmission for instant sharing
The X2D 100C comes with a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port that supports a max 10Gbps transmission rate. And a 2.4/5GHz high-speed Wi-Fi connection, enables a faster and more stable transmission with less interference. Link the X2D 100C with an iPad or iPhone via Wi-Fi, to transmit full-size JPG/RAW images using Phocus Mobile 2. This allows editing and outputting of high-quality RAW images that fully utilize the abilities of HNCS, and enables masterpieces to be created and shared effortlessly outside the studio. PD 3.0 fast charging and third-party PD 3.0 chargers are supported, removing the need to carry multiple charging devices.

Three new XCD lenses to match the Hasselblad X2D 100C

The latest generation of XCD lenses, the XCD 2,5/55V, XCD 2,5/38V, and XCD 2,5/90V, are compact, lightweight, yet maintain Hasselblad’s top-class optical performance. A fully upgraded focusing module enables faster and more accurate autofocus. The leaf shutter provides flash synchronization at all speeds and is now even more compact.

Precision optics, outstanding imagery

Capturing the most subtle nuances of light and shadow begins with these lenses. Only with excellent resolution and colour reproduction can they provide a solid foundation for imaging. A medium format sensor has a large area and a high pixel density, posing stringent requirements for the precision of each lens. Starting with the selection of high-quality glass, Hasselblad engineers carefully grind each lens to perfect its optical quality and meet the resolution requirements of 100 million pixels.

New focusing module: fast, light and accurate

The upgraded focusing module adopts a linear stepping motor and a lighter, smaller focusing lens group. These changes effectively eliminate any backlash from the lens group moving and, coupled with the PDAF technology of the X2D 100C, mean the focusing lens group can quickly reach the focusing position and achieve a precise stop. Resulting in fast, flexible, and accurate focusing.

Convenient and intuitive control

The lenses are designed to feel comfortable and intuitive in hand to fully support and not distract from the creative process. The tactile mechanics of the focus and control rings are fine-tuned for a smooth and satisfying experience. A simple push and pull of the focus ring changes from AF to MF mode, where intuitive scale marks keep focus distance and DOF clear at a glance. The control ring on the lens can be customized for quick access to preferred camera functions, making shooting more convenient and efficient.

Smaller leaf shutter, powerful and professional assistance

The leaf shutter is a powerful component in Hasselblad's medium format system. The new XCD lenses are equipped with an upgraded leaf shutter that, while smaller, maintains the same precision performance as its predecessors and is fast and quiet to avoid disturbance when shooting. In addition, this ultra-small shutter captures at up to 1/2000s and delivers flash synchronization at all speeds.

XCD 2,5/38V

Equivalent to a full-frame 30mm focal length, the XCD 2,5/38V low-distortion wide-angle lens is suitable for shooting documentary, street, or landscape photography. Include more environmental details when shooting in portrait, or have the soft bokeh effect from the large f/2.5 aperture to highlight the main subject against the background. The minimum focusing distance of XCD 2,5/38V is only 30cm, perfect for capturing cuisine, products, and other still subjects.

XCD 2,5/55V

Equivalent to a full-frame 43mm focal length, the XCD 2,5/55V standard lens produces a viewpoint similar to the human eye. This perspective, combined with the soft bokeh effect from the large f/2.5 aperture, makes this lens an outstanding option for full or half-length portraits and ideal for shooting documentary, still life, or daily photography.

XCD 2,5/90V

Equivalent to a full-frame 71mm focal length, the XCD 2,5/90V moderate telephoto lens is perfect for close-up portraits or still lives. Its focal length coupled with a large f/2.5 aperture creates a beautiful soft bokeh effect that highlights the subject.
