Tamron releases impressive firmware updates for eight lenses.

Tamron firmware updates

Transcontinenta UK Ltd., distributor for Tamron UK and Ireland, announces firmware updates for eight of Tamron's most popular lenses. Next to compatibility with the newly released Android version of the Tamron Lens Utility Mobile app, a bug fix, they offer huge improvements for the autofocus system.

Tamron 20-40, 50-400, 28-75 G2 and 35-150 for Sony E-mount

Firmware v2.0 will make it possible, for all of these lenses for the Sony E-mount, to use them with the Android version of the Tamron Lens Utility Mobile app. This allows the photographer and moviemakers to make live, and on site, customizations of lens functions and focusing characteristics. All this can be done simply by connecting the lens directly to the Android Smartphone or tablet. The firmware update v2.0 for these four lenses will be done via the USB-C port on the lens, connected to the Tamron Lens Utility software on a laptop or other computer.

  • Tamron 50-400 VC VXD for Sony E-mount, model A067
  • Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 VXD G2 for Sony E-mount, model A063
  • Tamron 35-150 f/2-2.8 VXD for Sony E-mount, model A058
Tamron 50-400 F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD for Sony E-mount
The firmware v2.0 for the Tamron 50-400 model A067 brings, next to the Android app support, huge improvement to the AF acquisition and tracking algorithms. And this even on older AF systems like the Sony A6000, A7II and A7III, A7rII and A7rIII. This v2.0 update also improves the accuracy with the Sony eye tracking autofocus for people, animals, and birds. The autofocus is further improved by minimizing the time for out of focus subject acquisition, even when moving. Finally, this update brings AF assist functionality during video recording, for even more precise control during a shoot.
Tamron 150-500 F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD for Sony E-mount
Firmware v3.0 gives the Tamron 50-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD model A057S lens the same improved AF algorithms as the v2.0 update for the Tamron 50-400. This huge improvement on AF tracking algorithms and refocusing on moving subjects, makes this compact 150-500mm super tele zoom the perfect choice for wildlife, birds, and sports photographers. For moviemakers, it is good to know that this update brings AF assist functionality during video recording. The firmware update for the 150-500mm is done through the Sony camera body with the Tamron update software
Tamron 18-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD for Fuji X

Firmware v3.0 adds live stabilization to the Fuji X camera “Shooting” stabilization mode, when the camera is in continuous autofocus. This is ideal for photographers who do a lot of subject tracking while using back button or half-press AF. After the update, the lens stabilization will remain active for as long as the back button or half-press is engaged. This is a big improvement for photo- and videographers, who can use it to capture the decisive moment with a stable viewfinder and final shot. The Tamron lens VC shall function when the shutter button is pressed halfway and the camera "IS MODE" is set to "SHOOTING", and the "FOCUS MODE" to "AF-C". Firmware updates for Tamron lenses for the Fuji X cameras are executed by downloading the new firmware onto a formatted memory card and use the update function in the Fuji camera.

Tamron 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD for Fuji X

Firmware v2.0 will add the same live stabilization to the Fuji X camera “Shooting” stabilization mode, when the camera is in continuous AF, as for the Tamron 18-300mm for Fuji X. This firmware update is also executed by downloading the new firmware onto a formatted memory card and use the update function in the Fuji camera.

Tamron 18-400 F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD for Canon EF

The Firmware v3.0 for the Tamron 18-400mm with Canon EF mount, can be done by the lens user via the Tamron TAP-In Console. This update fixes an issue with Canon EOS R7 and EOS R10 cameras, where the AF communication could be cut off, due to a timing bug, when turning the camera on and off.
