Review: Tamron 150-500mm Di III VC VXD for Nikon Z in the Dolomites
Wide angles aren't the only way to capture stunning mountains. Landscape photographer Chalana Smissaert took the Tamron 150-500mm f/5.0-6.7 Di III VC VXD to the Dolomites on her Nikon Z8 and discovered a whole new side to landscape photography.
Telephoto compression pulls distant mountain layers together, creating striking depth in a single frame. At f/8, the lens hits its sweet spot: razor-sharp detail in rock structures and exceptional micro contrast. And despite reaching 500mm, the lens weighs just 1,720g, light enough to carry comfortably on longer mountain hikes. The Tamron's VXD autofocus locks on fast and quiet, while the minimum focus distance of just 0.6m at 150mm opens up unexpected telephoto macro shots. A 75-degree zoom rotation and the "Flex zoom lock" keep things quick and secure when shooting at an angle.
