Soya Group is engaging in the Caravan to Ukraine. This marks the beginning of a more long-term collaboration to support the provision of vehicles, equipment, and essential supplies needed in the war-affected areas of Ukraine.
The Caravan to Ukraine is an initiative that started in Finland when the Swedish-speaking Finnish journalist Magnus Londen visited Ukraine in 2022 and learned about their need for vehicles, equipment, and supplies to maintain critical societal functions. These include off-road vehicles, ambulances, medical supplies, ATVs, power stations, and more. In early 2023, he made his first trip to deliver an off-road vehicle and several power generators, purchased by his friends with their own money. This marked the beginning of the Caravan to Ukraine, and since then, multiple vehicle caravans carrying supplies have been regularly organized between Finland and Ukraine.
Now, there is also a Swedish caravan that joins the Finnish caravan in Poland before both caravans cross the border together and deliver everything to the Ukrainian grassroots organization Initiative E+, which has been working since 2014 to distribute vehicles, equipment, and supplies to the war front in eastern Ukraine.
The Caravan to Ukraine relies on companies, organizations, associations, and individuals donating vehicles and materials, which then form a caravan and are transported to Ukraine.
Soya Group AB, including its subsidiaries, has so far donated two vehicles with the help of Autorola AB, and more donations are planned for the future. Social commitment and care for employees and the surrounding world have always been guiding principles for the Soya Group, which includes Wallenius Marine, Wallenius Lines, Wallfast, Menhammar Stud Farm and Wallenus Water Innovation. Additionally, the Soya Group’s security department has provided medical training for caravan participants as well as thorough safety analyses before and during the donation trips.
The Soya Group encourages more actors to get involved and join the Caravan to Ukraine.
"It is important to show Ukraine that we have not forgotten them. We are here, and we support them by donating things they truly need. Everything donated must be in good condition and ready to go directly from delivery to operational use in the affected areas," says Per Ottosson, the initiator of the Swedish caravan.
"The reception in Ukraine was incredibly warm and respectful. Those we met took nothing for granted and showed deep gratitude for us taking the time to come. It created a greater understanding of their situation. Everything felt much more direct and concrete than what we might be used to in Sweden," says an employee of the Soya Group who participated in the caravan. This is truly making a real difference! Let us all show that we will not forget Ukraine!
