Soya Group, together with a German-led consortium led by MEAG, is acquiring approximately 175,000 hectares of forest in Sweden from Stora Enso. The transaction is valued at approximately EUR 900 million and covers approximately 12.4% of Stora Enso’s forest holdings in Sweden. The transaction is expected to be finalised in the third quarter of 2025, subject to approval from relevant competition authorities.
“We are now taking an important step in the history of the Soya Group by broadening our forest investment activities. For a long time, we have been evaluating sustainable asset classes that can complement our existing investments. Sustainable and long-term forestry creates both stable value and a reasonable direct return. The new partnership with MEAG and Stora Enso creates great opportunities to develop sustainable solutions of the future in biofuels, carbon storage, wind power and biodiversity. It is fully in line with our long-term strategy for responsible investment,” says Jonas Kleberg, CEO and Chairman of Soya Group.
In connection with the transaction, the consortium will also enter into long-term supply and service agreements with Stora Enso. After the transaction, Soya Group will have a 40.6% stake in the company and Stora Enso will retain a 15% stake.
The acquired forest land is certified according to FSC and PEFC, and fulfils the requirements of both standards for social, economic and environmental responsibility. The newly formed forestry company will have a strong focus on sustainability in its various aspects.
The venture is part of Soya Group's long-term strategy to invest in sustainable solutions with stable returns. Through the partnership with MEAG and Stora Enso, the Group strengthens its position in future green investments.
