In early November, Paper Province travels to the Expo 2020 world exhibition in Dubai, to promote sustainable construction with Swedish timber.

Paper Province, a world-leading forest bioeconomy cluster, will bring several hand-picked Swedish companies to Dubai to showcase the potential of large-scale timber construction.

“Wood, as a sustainably grown and renewable raw material, has great potential to accelerate the transition to a climate-neutral construction industry,” says Elin Appel, Project Manager at Paper Province, and coordinator of Paper Province’s participation in Dubai.

At the Swedish pavilion, Paper Province will be accompanied by Swedish enterprises at the forefront in the wood construction segment. One of them is Woodbe, that participates to demonstrate how their innovative solution contributes to sustainable development.

Shared knowledge on a global level

“The fact that Paper Province gives us the opportunity to take part in Expo 2020 is proof of the positive and forward-thinking spirit that permeates the industry. Many Swedish companies are actively involved in the pursuit of a more sustainable construction sector, and in Dubai we get the chance to share good examples as well as learn from others,” says Filip Palosaari, co-founder of Woodbe.

Woodbe’s product, BiteLock, is a self-locking frame system developed for cross-laminated timber constructions. Not only does it help reduce the carbon footprint of buildings, but it also streamlines the construction process. The modular system consists only of wood and the assembly does not require any screws, angle irons or other metal connections.

About Expo 2020

The world exhibition in Dubai opened on 1 October this year. About 190 countries participate in different areas under the theme "Connecting Minds - Creating the Future".

The Swedish pavilion, The Forest, is placed in the sustainability district. It is designed like a forest and is entirely built of renewable materials, mainly Swedish spruce. Find out more at expo2020.se

A project to promote sustainable construction

A total of six Swedish companies are included in the group that travels with Paper Province to Dubai. These are: Biosorbe, Woodbe, POJI, Modvion, Karnehed Design & Construction and SustainaCon Sweden. Meet the companies in this video >.

Paper Province’s participation at Expo 2020 is made possible through the EU-funded project IndBygg. The project aims to promote the upscaling of industrial wood construction, with a focus on North Middle Sweden as a region. IndBygg is led by Paper Province in collaboration with regional organisations that promote innovation such as IUC Dalarna and Karlstad University, as well as regional councils, local councils, associations, and companies.
