Ouriginal’s Move To Address A Changed EdTech Landscape
(STOCKHOLM, 18 March 2021) - Ouriginal, one of the Nordic’s leading providers of text-matching solutions for plagiarism prevention and text-similarity detection, announces that its current owners have signed an agreement with Turnitin LLC with the intention to divest Ouriginal to Turnitin. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions. By becoming part of Turnitin, Ouriginal will be able to expand its reach, allowing more customers to benefit from its innovative solutions. Additionally, as part of a global organization, Ouriginal will be in a better position to adapt to the rapidly changing EdTech landscape.
The year 2020 has been a watershed for the EdTech industry in terms of growth and maturity. Digital solutions have proven to be essential for education. For EdTech companies like Ouriginal, this resulted in two key developments: A demand for reliable, state-of-the-art solutions that address the current and future needs of educators; and increased attention on the industry from both, bigger global corporations as well as investors. Following the successful launch as a new brand in 2020 and the appreciated service the company provides to its customers, in March 2021, an agreement was signed with Turnitin LLC with the intention to divest Ouriginal to Turnitin.
“Ouriginal has a proven track record of delivering high-quality, cutting-edge and reliable solutions for education. We know our customers' needs, and want to be able to address them in the future as well,” says Andreas Ohlson, CEO of Ouriginal. “For that, we need the resources to develop and maintain these solutions globally, as well as provide a high standard of customer service. Becoming part of Turnitin enables us to realize these objectives. For us, Turnitin is the right partner to help us meet our future goals.”
“Turnitin and Ouriginal share a commitment to upholding the integrity of education,” said Chris Caren, CEO of Turnitin. “By joining forces, we expand our geographic reach and give more customers access to high-quality text similarity checking solutions. We are eager to grow with Ouriginal and help even more educators ensure academic integrity and students do their best, original work.”
The acquisition is subject to customary regulatory review. Customers will experience no change in their services and will continue to work with the existing Ouriginal team and services even upon finalization of the acquisition.
