Niam improves GRESB sustainability score

GRESB 2022

During the past few years, Niam has been focused on establishing sustainability strategies and new working methods throughout the organisation – and that is giving results. In their recently published 2022 report, GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) awarded Niam a score of 86 out of a possible 100. As well as retaining their four star rating, Niam also achieved the highest score in the Management section and a clearly improved Performance score.

2021 saw the conclusion of a broad sustainability review at Niam and the approval of a new sustainability policy. This policy includes ESG goals, an extended organization within ESG as well as clear and systematic working methods. All these elements are designed to strengthen Niam´s sustainability approach and reduce our climate impact.

- The improved GRESB score for Niam and its fund Niam Nordic Core-Plus II demonstrates that we are on the right track. The joint efforts of the Niam staff in creating and implementing our new Sustainability policy is encouraging and it is very pleasing to see that it has led to positive outcomes. Currently, Niam is focused on implementing a new ESG platform for collection, analysis and reporting of ESG data for our assets. In the future this will be a vital component in Niam´s journey to reach our goals. Niam has set a net zero greenhouse gas emission target for standing assets by 2030 and for new construction by 2045. I am delighted by what Niam has achieved and we are continuing with our ESG actions in order to improve further, reach our goals and reduce our climate impact, says Gustav Thörnqvist, Sustainability Manager at Niam.

GRESB is an organization that produces internationally recognized benchmarks to track environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of commercial real estate and infrastructure. In the GRESB reporting this year 1820 companies attended from 74 different countries.
