Väderstad and EarthOptics partner to connect soil intelligence with precision farming solutions

Väderstad and EarthOptics.Benoit Blateyron - Väderstad, and Hunt Bowers - EarthOptics, at Väderstad Farm, Sweden.

Väderstad and EarthOptics announces a strategic collaboration aimed at exploring how advanced soil intelligence can be integrated with precision farming solutions to help farmers make more informed decisions, improve field performance and promote long-term soil health.

The collaboration combines advanced soil intelligence, agronomic expertise and machine technology to explore new opportunities for precision agriculture and customer value creation.

The partnership centers around a pilot project at Väderstad's test farm in Sweden, where EarthOptics' soil sensing technology will be combined with Väderstad's expertise in agronomy, tillage and machine technology.

The pilot will utilize EarthOptics' GroundOwl™ platform, an automated Digital Cone Penetrometer, and EarthOptics' TruTill™ compaction mapping, which use machine learning models to combine proximal sensor data with ground-truthed measurements, to generate detailed information about soil compaction and fertility across approximately 250 hectares. This information will then be converted into machine-ready prescription maps that can support variable-depth tillage in the control system of Väderstad machinery and other precision farming applications.

Together, the companies aim to better understand how soil intelligence can help farmers optimize every field operation. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to soil health, sustainable agriculture and technological innovation.

- At EarthOptics, we believe the future of farming starts with a better understanding of the soil. By partnering with Väderstad, we have an opportunity to connect advanced soil intelligence with world-class agronomic expertise and machinery. Together, we are exploring practical ways to help farmers make smarter decisions that improve productivity, profitability and long-term soil health, says Gunnar Bodvarsson, Senior Business Development Executive, EarthOptics.

For Väderstad, the project represents another step in the company's ongoing ambition to help farmers improve productivity and profitability through smarter farming solutions. As agriculture becomes increasingly digital, access to actionable field data is becoming more important than ever. Farmers are looking for solutions that help them make better decisions while using resources more efficiently. Combining agronomic expertise, advanced machinery and digital insights creates new opportunities to meet those expectations. The companies believe that the future of agriculture will increasingly rely on connecting data with action in the field.

This pilot is designed to explore exactly how that connection can create measurable value for farmers. The collaboration also highlights the growing importance of partnerships in driving innovation. By bringing together complementary skills and technologies, companies can accelerate development and solve challenges more effectively.

- At Väderstad, we are always looking for new ways to create value for our customers. This collaboration with EarthOptics allows us to explore how soil intelligence, digital solutions and machine technology can work together to support better farming decisions. Partnerships like this are an important part of how we continue to innovate and shape the future of farming,  says Benoit Blateyron, Senior Vice President – Strategy & Innovations, Väderstad.

For EarthOptics, the project provides an opportunity to demonstrate how soil intelligence can be transformed into practical agronomic recommendations. For Väderstad, it creates an opportunity to explore how digital and data-driven solutions can further strengthen the value delivered through its product portfolio. The pilot will continue throughout 2026 and include mapping activities, field trials and evaluation of potential future applications. Insights gained during the project will help both companies better understand how soil data, machine intelligence and agronomy can work together in real farming conditions.

Ultimately, the collaboration is about helping farmers make better decisions, achieve stronger results and build healthier soils for the future. By combining innovation, practical farming knowledge and a shared passion for progress, EarthOptics and Väderstad are taking an important step toward shaping the next generation of farming solutions.
