Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 29 August 2026 – Dutch family-owned pickled vegetable producer Kesbeke is modernising its Amsterdam plant and is auctioning 51 lots of surplus industrial equipment online through Troostwijk Auctions. The offering mainly comprises machinery and equipment used to wash, process, convey, store and package vegetables. Much of the equipment is not limited to pickle production and may also be suitable for other crops, food products and manufacturing processes.
Kesbeke has produced pickled vegetables in Amsterdam since 1948 and is currently run by the third and fourth generations of the family. Oos Kesbeke is gradually handing over day-to-day management to his sons Camiel and Silvian. At the same time, the production facility is being further modernised. Machinery and equipment for which there is no longer space within the upgraded production environment can now find a second life with other businesses.Production at Kesbeke continues without interruption. Late August is one of the busiest periods of the year at the factory. The gherkin harvest runs from approximately late June until mid-September. Fresh gherkins are cleaned and pickled immediately after harvesting, which means that the Amsterdam plant is currently running at full pace.
“We are right in the middle of gherkin season, so the factory is extremely busy. At the same time, we are continuing to modernise the site. Equipment that is being replaced here can often remain in productive use at another company for many years. It would be a waste to leave good machinery idle,” says Oos Kesbeke.
One of the notable lots is a brush washing machine equipped with six rotating brushes and four electric motors. Kesbeke used the machine to clean gherkins, but depending on the product and production set-up, it may also be suitable for processors handling other firm vegetables, root crops and agricultural produce.The auction also includes several feed and conveyor belts, an electric conveyor system, a vibratory sieve, a pocket filler, mixers and case-sealing machines. Other lots include a piston compressor, pallet boxes, warehouse racking and various polyester storage tanks. Several of the tanks have a capacity of 4,000 litres and were previously used to store vinegar.
Although the equipment comes from a pickle factory, many of the underlying process steps are common throughout the food industry. Conveyors and pallet boxes can be used to handle raw materials or packaged products, while washing, sieving, mixing, storage and packaging equipment also features in the processing of other vegetables, fruit and food products.The precise suitability of each machine will depend on the product, required capacity and technical configuration of the buyer’s production process.
