FORCIT Strengthens Europe’s Defence Through International Naval Mine Cooperation

The Finnish-led Naval Mines Cooperation (NMC) project has progressed to the main contract phase (NMC Fast Track Main Contract) for the joint procurement of naval mines. The Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command and FORCIT have signed an agreement on the delivery of the Finnish Blocker influence sea mine system for the use of participating countries. In the initial phase, the agreement covers Finland, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania and Norway. The total value of the agreement amounts to hundreds of millions of euros.

The agreement is based on a Framework Agreement, signed after the 2024 Letter of Intent, through which Belgium, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Finland and Estonia further define cooperation within the NMC project. Possible areas of cooperation include joint procurement, naval cooperation, logistics, operations and lifecycle management, exercises and training, information exchange, and weapon system development.

For FORCIT, the agreement is a strategically important milestone. It demonstrates the growing demand for specialised expertise in naval defence as European countries strengthen their defence capabilities, security of supply and interoperability. At the same time, the agreement reinforces the company’s international competitiveness in defence technology and its position as a frontrunner and leading specialist in area-denial systems.

A Trusted Defence Technology Partner

FORCIT’s Blocker is a modern seabed-deployed influence sea mine system that combines advanced sensor technology, insensitive munitions and long-term lifecycle support expertise.

“This agreement is an important recognition of FORCIT’s decades of work as a developer and manufacturer of high-quality land and naval defence systems. Europe needs reliable and scalable defence solutions, and FORCIT meets this demand through technological and industrial expertise as well as close cooperation with customers,” says Joakim Westerlund, CEO of FORCIT Group.

Growth at the Core of Europe’s Security

The framework agreement supports FORCIT’s growth in the defence industry and highlights the importance of Finnish expertise in strengthening European security.

“Our goal is to be a global frontrunner in area-denial systems for land and naval defence. The Naval Mines Cooperation framework agreement is a concrete step in that direction,” says Alex Lagerstedt, Executive Vice President of FORCIT Defence.
