Umeå-based Nil Medical AB has been selected as a finalist in this year’s Medtech4Health Innovation Award for the Vestpack, a solution designed to make everyday life easier for children and young people undergoing medical treatment.

“We’re honored to be nominated for an award that highlights patient benefit and a more efficient healthcare system. We aim to give children greater freedom of movement during treatment, and it means a lot to see Vestpack recognized as an innovation that genuinely makes a difference,” says Martin Hanberger, CEO of Nil Medical.

Receives business support from Umeå Biotech Incubator
The Vestpack is an ergonomically designed vest that conceals and protects fluids, pumps, and tubing inside the garment, giving children increased mobility during demanding medical treatments.

The product was developed in close collaboration with healthcare staff, patients, and families at the pediatric oncology unit at Norrland University Hospital in Umeå, where the project began in 2011. Since 2024, Nil Medical has received business support from Umeå Biotech Incubator (UBI) and is situated in its facilities.

Recognizes innovative medical technologies
The Medtech4Health Innovation Award recognizes individuals and teams who have developed and implemented innovative medical technologies that improve patient outcomes and make healthcare more efficient.

A jury with representatives from healthcare, industry, and innovation organizations selects the finalists and the winner. The jury is chaired by Lena Strömberg, Program Director at Medtech4Health, which established the award.

“This year’s finalists showcase the breadth and maturity of Swedish medtech. These companies combine strong technological innovation with clear patient benefit and address some of the most urgent challenges in healthcare,” says Lena Strömberg in a press release from Medtech4Health.

Received prestigious design honor in 2025
The winner of the Medtech4Health Innovation Award will be announced on April 14 at Vårdarenan in Stockholm.

In 2025, Nil Medical received one of Sweden’s most prestigious design honors, Utmärkt Svensk Form, for its infusion vest. The company was also one of three finalists for University Spinoff of the Year at Umeågalan 2025.
