Ingrid, the leading Nordic flexibility and grid-tech company, and Wattmen, French energy storage developer, have signed a co-development agreement to deploy 200MW of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across France. The joint projects will increase grid flexibility and reduce imbalance costs in the French electricity market and are expected to reach ready-to-build status in 2026 and 2027.

Under the partnership, Wattmen brings deep local energy market expertise and will lead project development. Ingrid brings a unique combination of expertise in financing, procurement, construction and operations as well as capabilities to optimise assets using its in-house trading and optimisation platform. With experience from 30+ projects, Ingrid has a strong understanding of the energy system and its value chain across markets as well as a solid track record of developing and deploying profitable flexibility assets. The French projects will be strategically established to strengthen the distribution network in areas where flexibility can make the biggest positive impact in countering imbalance costs.

“We continue to execute on our mission to make the European grid more intelligent. I am proud that we are now being trusted to provide our infrastructure and software to also the French energy market. Cross-border partnerships are necessary to deliver on the pressing needs of the European power grid. We are happy to partner with Wattmen, our first partnership in France, to support the competitiveness and resilience of Europe. As the energy transition accelerates, Ingrid is providing flexibility at an increasing scale, enabling an affordable and reliable electricity delivery”, says Axel Holmberg, CEO of Ingrid.

“We are happy to partner with Ingrid to strengthen the French energy system. Both companies have a shared understanding of how to build the future, intelligent grid. With Ingrid’s expertise, we can significantly improve time to market for our assets. This improves the economics for renewable energy producers, supports the integration of renewable energy, and increases the resilience of the grid”, says Jean-Marc Guenée, CEO of Wattmen.

Ingrid operates or is constructing more than 450 MW (650 MWh) of battery storage and has raised over 300 million euros in capital, and is the leading developer, owner and optimiser of assets in the Nordics. Assets include Finland’s largest storage facility at 70 MW (140 MWh), and one of Sweden’s largest at 100MW (200MWh). In addition to energy storage and the optimisation of BESS and renewable energy, Ingrid also offers structures for green energy supply and offtake as well as innovative grid services.

The partnership with Wattmen is one clear example of Ingrid’s execution on its mission to develop the infrastructure and software needed to enable an intelligent, resilient, and future‑proof power grid across Europe. Alongside Ingrid’s expansion into the French market, the company recently announced its first German partnership.
