Ingrid Capacity – in partnership with the SEB Nordic Energy Fund, through Locus Energy, inaugurated a new battery storage facility in Rättvik Municipality on 24 September. The facility has a capacity of 12MW/12MWh and is part of a larger initiative to enhance flexibility in the Swedish power grid at local, regional, and national levels. This establishment marks a significant step in Ingrid Capacity’s mission to create flexibility and grid optimization across Europe.

Flexible solutions such as large-scale battery storage play a key role in the transition toward a more sustainable and resilient energy system. By storing electricity during periods of surplus and releasing it during peak demand, battery storage helps to ease grid load, stabilize electricity prices, and enable greater use of renewable energy sources. Combined with smart optimization tools, batteries increase the efficiency of existing infrastructure and reduce the need for costly new investments. With lead times of 1–3 years, battery storage is a solution that can already make a real difference today.

“With the Rättvik Project, we’re demonstrating what the power grid of the future requires – smart batteries that make a real difference here and now. Our proprietary AI-powered trading platform adds the intelligence that makes the grid smarter and more efficient. This creates stability and value not only here in Rättvik, but also in many other places across the Nordics,” says Nicklas Bäcker, co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Ingrid Capacity.

The Benefits of battery storage

In addition to contributing to a more resilient and sustainable energy system in Rättvik Municipality, this battery storage investment also strengthens the robustness of the power grid throughout Dalarna and Sweden as a whole. As new industries emerge and electrification needs increase, access to reliable electricity and a stable grid becomes ever more crucial. The battery storage facility – the first in Rättvik Municipality - represents an important step toward a smarter and more sustainable energy system, benefiting both residents and businesses.

“I welcome Ingrid Capacity’s and Locus Energy’s establishment here in Rättvik. The energy storage facility is an important step towards increased flexibility in the grid and enables more efficient use of renewable energy. By strengthening local electricity supply, this investment contributes to the fossil-free transition – fully aligned with the municipality’s ambition to reduce its climate impact,” says Ulrica Momqvist, Mayor of Rättvik Municipality.

The battery facility in Rättvik has a capacity of 12MW/12MWh and is part of a larger partnership with Locus Energy, through which the companies jointly develop and own 172MW/240MWh of battery storage capacity in Sweden.

“Integrating batteries into the portfolio is a key operational step in building the system efficiency we are targeting.  We see that the combination of renewable generation and storage creates a portfolio with higher flexibility, resilience, and commercial potential, where the asset can be cross-optimized and become more valuable as part of the whole,” says Mattias Söderquist, Deputy CEO and Partner at Locus Energy.

“Thanks to strong collaboration and effective dialogue with Dala Energi, Rättvik Municipality, the architects at Ateljé Nord, and other partners, we’ve gone from breaking ground to commissioning a fully operational energy storage facility in just six months – ready to provide the flexibility resources needed for a resilient and sustainable grid, both nationally and locally here in Rättvik,” says Regina Leandersson, Project Developer at Ingrid Capacity.

The Rättvik project marks an important step in Ingrid Capacity’s broader goal to promote flexibility and grid optimization across Europe. With more than 200MW of battery storage in operation, another 400MW under construction, and a leading trading and optimization platform that maximizes asset value, the company is already contributing to a more sustainable and robust energy supply.

About Ingrid Capacity

Ingrid Capacity is driving the development of tomorrow’s energy systems by addressing one of the greatest challenges of the energy transition – bottlenecks in the power grid. Through our market-leading platform, we optimize flexible resources and the electricity grid for system operators, energy users, and producers. By combining strategically located energy storage, smart digital grid optimization tools, and innovative energy contract models, we unlock grid flexibility and accelerate electrification. The result is a more resilient, competitive, and sustainable energy system.

Since our founding in 2022, Ingrid Capacity has become the leading energy storage player in the Nordics, with over 200MWh in operation and more than 400MWh under development – including Finland’s largest energy storage facility in Nivala at 70MW/140MWh. Today, we are rapidly expanding across Europe.
