Gothia Cup crowned its 50th anniversary with large crowds and epic endings.
– It was a fantastic conclusion to perhaps one of the best editions we’ve ever had, says Event Director Anders Albertsson.
After nearly 5 000 matches, Gothia Cup wrapped up on Saturday. A total of nineteen finals were played in the A playoffs, marking the climax of a week filled with thrilling matches and encounters between teams from all over the world.
– We’ve had an incredible time, says Anders Albertsson, Event Director of the Gothia Cup. And even though we have so many memories from the past fifty years, this really feels like one of the most successful tournaments we've ever hosted.
The 50th anniversary was highlighted throughout the week – not only by focusing on the participants but on everyone who makes Gothia Cup possible.
– Organizing the world's largest youth tournament is truly a team effort, says Anders Albertsson. And it feels like we’ve honored everyone who has made these years possible in a worthy way – teams, referees, volunteers, and supporters – and not least the people of Gothenburg, who are an indispensable part of making this tournament what it is.
