Fighting Food Insecurity with Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program

As food insecurity continues to rise in Maine, Casella volunteers partnered with the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program to ensure no one in the community goes without nourishment. From re-boxing eggs to preparing warm meals, Casella is proud to support the program’s work to ensure everyone in the community has access to food close to home.

“From 2019 to 2024, the demand in our food pantry has gone up 140 percent. In 2024, we served 13,000 people through the food pantry,” said MCHPP Development Director Alyssa Schoppee. “The need is still up in 2025, and we don’t see it going down. There’s no way we could do this work without volunteers, and the team at Casella has been super eager to help.”
