Blue Rhino Offers Safety Tips for Grilling Season

Blue Rhino wants to remind everyone to grill safely this Memorial Day weekend. As the unofficial kick-off to summer, it’s important to make safety a priority when you fire up your grill, fire table, patio heater, or other propane-powered outdoor appliances.

First, it’s important to check your appliances for wear and tear, especially if they’ve been exposed to the elements during the winter. You’ll want to look for things like damage to hoses, valves, or other connections. In addition, you’ll want to do a leak check every time you get ready to use your propane-power appliances. It’s a simple process that only takes a few minutes. You can find a helpful video here.

If you need to grab a fresh Blue Rhino tank before your big barbecue, be sure you’re doing it safely. If you’re transporting a tank to and from the store, be sure to secure it in a well-ventilated area of your vehicle in an upright position. Make sure the valve is closed. Head directly to the store – don’t make any stops – and never leave the propane tank in your vehicle unattended.

Once you get your fresh Blue Rhino tank home, never store it indoors. Instead, keep propane tanks outside on a flat, sturdy surface away from buildings, vegetation, or anything combustible. You can find more propane safety tips here.

In addition, be sure the food you’re cooking for your barbecue is safe. Avoid cross-contamination by using separate utensils for raw and cooked meats. Don’t overload your grill; it could cause a flare-up. You’ll also want to ensure the food you prepare is cooked to a safe temperature. You can find a guide here.

We hope everyone has a safe, happy, and healthy Memorial Day. If you need a propane safety refresher, you can find propane safety tips on the side of any Blue Rhino cylinder or online at BlueRhino.com. And don’t forget, you can find dozens of grilling recipes on Blue Rhino’s site, too.
