Cherry Hill, NJ (August 1, 2024)  –  The Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey (GSCSNJ) are excited to announce their participation in the 40th annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6th. Troops and Service Unit volunteers from across the region will engage with communities from Perth Amboy to Penns Grove and Trenton to Absecon, embodying the spirit of friendship and community-building at the heart of the Girl Scouts and National Night Out.

National Night Out, established in 1984, is a community-building campaign that promotes partnerships between neighborhoods and local law enforcement.  The inaugural event encouraged residents to turn on their porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement officers.

“National Night Out is a wonderful opportunity for our Girl Scouts to connect with their communities and local first responders,” said Ginny Hill, CEO of GSCSNJ. “Our Girl Scouts learn the importance of civic engagement and building positive relationships, which are key components of both our mission and the goals of National Night Out.”

Girl Scouts will be visible at over 45 National Night Out events across the region engaging in activities, offering support, and making new friends.  If you love playing games, be sure to stop by the Girl Scouts’ “Minute To Win It” table for fun, fast-paced games and cool prizes.

The synergy between the Girl Scouts, their communities, and first responders highlights a shared commitment to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhoods.  “We encourage all Girl Scout families to attend their local National Night Out events,” added Ginny Hill. “These events, which typically run from 6-9 PM, rain or shine, provide a valuable opportunity to strengthen community ties.”

Attendees are encouraged to visit the Girl Scouts' area at their local National Night Out events to learn more about the Girl Scouts' community projects, engage in fun activities, and make new friends. Girl Scouts will be on hand to share information about their initiatives and how they contribute to making our communities better places to live.

Through programs, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.
