Spanish chemicals manufacturer to establish plant in Sweden

Fertiberia, the Spanish manufacturer of fertiliser and industrial chemical products, plans to establish a plant facility in Norrbotten, Sweden. Roughly 2,000 job opportunities will be created during the construction phase and just over 500 job opportunities upon entering the production phase. The construction is expected to start in 1-2 years, targeting to start production by 2026. The access to green energy and minerals in Norrbotten was the contributing factor to Fertiberia’s decision, according to Carina Sammeli (S), the Chair of the Municipal board (SvD).

Vattenfall offers “climate therapy”

Vattenfall has started the “Engineerapy” project which offers climate therapy calls to anyone from the public suffering from anxiety over the state of the environment and climate change (Sw: klimatångest). Starting on 1 November, engineers will hold video calls over a three-week period to explain tangible achievements in addressing climate. Vattenfall is expecting a broad demographic and aims to meet the grim narrative on the environment and climate change backed by scientific data and figures (Expressen).

Aker Clean Hydrogen report loss of NOK 47 million for 3Q21

Aker Clean Hydrogen reported a turnover of NOK 7.6 million and operating loss of NOK 47 million for 3Q21. The loss was accredited to costs related to maturing its project, organisational development, and growing its pipeline. The company has taken further steps in making hydrogen affordable in Norwegian projects ($3.5-4.5 per kg), which in today’s expensive gas market is comparable to the cost of grey hydrogen, according to Knut Nyborg, CEO of Aker Clean Hydrogen. Amid the losses are highlights from their third-quarter results.

  • Exploring green ammonia value chain for offshore platform supply vessels with Aker BP.

TECO 2030 signs cooperation agreement with UiT to enhance education on hydrogen

TECO 2030 has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with UiT - The Arctic University of Norway to enhance research and education on hydrogen and fuel cells in Norway. As a part of the agreement with UiT’s Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology, TECO 2030 will give researchers and students the opportunity to use its testing facilities and innovation centres when not used for the production of fuel cells. Furthermore, the partners will jointly identify and cooperate on creating hydrogen-related projects for marine- and land-based applications to increase the efficiency of the fuel cell production equipment (Press release).

H2 Green Steel signs collaboration agreement with BMW

H2 Green Steel has signed a collaboration agreement with BMW for the delivery of fossil-free steel to BMW Group’s European car factories. The first delivery is expected at the earliest in 2025. The agreement proves the market’s demand for fossil-free solutions along the entire value chain in several sector’s sustainable transition according to Bo-Erik Pers, CEO of Jernkontoret (Industri nyheter).

Venture capital funds needed to finance climate technology: Carbo Culture

Breakthrough climate technologies require billions of dollars to repair the dent in the environment – something Venture Capital is playing an increasing role in according to an article by the Financial Times. The FT highlights Carbo Culture, a Finnish-US start-up with the aim of removing 1 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by 2030 which has recently raised a $6.2 million in seed funding from True Ventures, the Silicon Valley-based VC. Its pilot reactor, currently operating in California, turns biomass into biochar, storing carbon in a stable form for a thousand years and the company is planning to open its first commercial plant in Helsinki in 2024 to sell renewable heat. VC money becomes very important for companies that use climate technologies for tackling climate change, according to Henrietta Moon, the co-founder of Carbo Culture (Tech Crunch).
