New hydrogen research centre starts in Sweden

A new research centre for green hydrogen has started at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), in Stockholm. One goal of the new centre is to create smaller, cheaper and more efficient electrolysers - which provide more hydrogen in a smaller area - identifying materials for these electrolysers that are easily accessible. Another area is to investigate the possibility of converting hydrogen into liquid form for more efficient storage for the Hybrit project in Luleå. The new research center is a collaboration between, KTH, Lund University, Chalmers in Gothenburg, Umeå University and the research institute RISE. The researchers will study everything from the production, use and storage of hydrogen.

 

Swedish hydrogen company raises growth capital

Given extremely rapid developments in the hydrogen economy, Metacon AB has decided to carry out an issue of shares with preferential rights for existing shareholders, in order to raise SEK 80 million. The company says that during the last six months, several important steps have been taken around the world to realize the plans to introduce hydrogen as a replacement for fossil fuels. A rapid transition to hydrogen is now considered consistent from several quarters within both the social analysts and the research world as a prerequisite for achieving the Paris Agreement. Demand for the Company's products and technology has increased sharply during the same period, and strategic opportunities have opened that require adequate capitalization.

 

World BioEconomy Forum gets underway tomorrow

The World BioEconomy Forum, is a major Finnish event, bringing together the key themes and guidelines of the bio and circular economy. The forum will be attended by more than 300 registered delegations from almost 50 countries. Over 70% of the participants come from outside Finland, and the speakers are 40 experts in the bio and circular economy. The forum will be implemented virtually for this year.

 

Chip bags to be made from bio-material

Chip brand, OLW is launching new chip bags made from Finnish tall oil, a residual product from the forest industry. The new bags have a halved climate footprint compared to bags made from fossil plastic. 

 

Metsä Board wants to accelerate innovations in cardboard and packaging

Increasing consumption and demands for more sustainable packaging increase the need for new innovation. Metsä Board has started operations in its new Excellence Center, which is located in the bioeconomy area in Äänekoski, Finland.

 

Norwegian e-boat to be launched with hydrogen tank

The Hycruiser 28 electric boat will be launched next year. It will have a range of 180 nautical miles, a top speed of 15 knots and a hydrogen tank, supplying a fuel cell which will extend its range.

 

Soltech and Powercell sign cooperation agreements

Solar energy company, Soltech and fuel cell company, Powercell have signed a Nordic cooperation agreement to develop solutions including the company's products. The first joint customer is Amokabel AB, which has the problem that the grid owner cannot supply enough energy from the electricity grid for the company to be able to grow its business. The mission will be to investigate whether solar energy combined with fuel cells with hydrogen production and storage can be part of the solution.
