Vestas lands contract to supply UK’s largest onshore wind farm in Shetlands

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has secured its largest stand-alone wind turbine order in Europe to date, being selected by Irish company SSE Renewables to supply more than 100 turbines to the huge Viking Wind Farm in the UK. Port of Gothenburg pushes for deeper European climate integration

The Port of Gothenburg is pushing the frontiers of environmental goals. In 2019, the Port set a climate goal of a 70% reduction in climate-affecting emissions by 2030. One win so far has been land transport to and from the port, where a long-term conversion from road to rail is being carried out. The Port now has the highest proportion of rail-borne container freight in the world at around 60%, which is continuing to grow. Gothenburg's Sustainability Manager, Edvard Molitor currently chairs the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPOs) Sustainability Committee. He says that  “the toughest part of the challenge lies on the sea side, where cooperation across national borders is required for us to be able to take the necessary steps for sustainable development.”

Norwegian industry sees export opportunities in green energy

With Norway losing share in export markets, chiefly due to the drop in the price of oil, the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise, NHO, has looked at how Norway can better utilize the potential within electrification

According to Hydro's Executive Vice President and President of NHO, Arvid Moss, despite the fact that Norway is at the forefront of using electrification in the form of electric cars and ferries, it has not been able to create jobs and value chains in Norway. The project has identified where Norwegian players have special advantages, with the top 6 opportunities being;

  1. Global renewable actors - within all renewable technologies
  2. The supply chain for offshore wind
  3. Batteries
  4. Hydrogen
  5. Maritime sector
  6. Optimization of power systems and smart charging on the go

Axfoundation's nominated for Sustainability Initiative of the Year

Axfoundation is one of three finalists in the Sustainability Initiative of the Year category at the Grocery Gala. The purpose of the category is to promote the grocery industry's work with sustainable development towards a more sustainable environment. Among the successful investments is the recently launched legume mince, which is gaining ground both on store shelves and at wholesalers, contributing to a Swedish protein shift. Svensk Baljväxtfärs (literally, Minced Legumes) is one of many ideas that were born and gained vigor on Torsåker farm, Axfoundation's test farm and development centre. According to Madeleine Linins Mörner, program manager for Future Food, at Torsåker, Axfoundation can follow every step of the process, literally from sprout to finished product, collaborating with the entire industry push towards sustainable food systems,.

By collaborating with players in the entire food chain, Svensk Baljväxtfärs has gone from idea to finished product on the shelves in less than two years. From first being sold on a smaller scale at Urban Deli, the product is today included in several vegetarian meal solutions, including vegetarian lasagne, taco mince and legume bolognese sold at Hemköp and Mat.se under Axfood's own brand, Garant.
