Sweden’s Social Democrats demand the government: "Set national goals for electric aviation"
The Social Democrats in the Riksdag Transport Committee want the government to set national goals for electric aviation. “Norway wants to be a world leader there. I do not think we should allow them to be that", said Social Democrat Member of Parliament, Teres Lindberg who is also the new group leader in the Transport Committee. She continued, "Norway has set a goal that their domestic flights will be electrified by 2040. And that they will be world leaders. I do not think we should allow them to be that.”
BP and Neste to ramp up supply of aviation biofuel to Arlanda and Gardermoen airports
AirBP and Neste have signed a deal to ramp up their supply of sustainable aviation fuel to several European airports over the next 18 months. Citing rising demand from airlines for greener jet fuel, the pair have now agreed to increase their supply five-fold in 2020 and 2021, with deliveries to Stockholm and Oslo airports expected to begin in the coming weeks.
Thorsten Lange, EVP for renewable aviation at Neste, said the firm planned to increase its annual sustainable aviation fuel production capacity from 100,000 tons today to around 1.5m tons by 2023 by expanding its refineries in Singapore and Rotterdam.
Everfuel to supply hydrogen refuelling in the Netherlands
The Dutch public transport company, Connexxion, is currently running four hydrogen buses. Good experience means that its hydrogen bus network in South Holland will be expanded to 20 buses from the end of 2021, Denmark’s Everfuel, has signed a contract to build the refueling station, which will also be able to supply trucks with green hydrogen.
Coop Denmark orders Scania's all-electric truck
Denmark's largest retail company, Coop, will take an all-electric truck into operation for its city distribution. The Scania truck, with an estimated range of 140 km, is planned to be put into Coop's operations during 1Q21. The range can also be extended through the possibility of fast charging, for example during loading or unloading of goods.
Stora Enso and Helsinki Olympic Stadium promoting the circular economy
The Helsinki Olympic Stadium is being renovated. The project is now working to assist Helsinki is becoming carbon neutral by 2035, in accordance with the City of Helsinki's strategy. Stora Enso, a manufacturer of pulp, paper and other forest products, is exploring the possibility of reusing products and recycling used materials to give high-quality wood fibre a second life in new products that will be available for various forms of services and activities at the stadium.
Norwegian researchers find simple way to reduce bird deaths
A Norwegian research team has demonstrated a relatively simple and potentially very effective way to drastically reduce the number of bird deaths at wind farms, by painting one of the three blades of a wind turbine black. In the 10 year study at a 68MW wind farm on the Norwegian archipelago of Smøla, the research team found a 72% reduction in annual bird fatality rate at painted turbines, compared to non-painted control turbines.
