Electrification Pact to make Stockholm fossil-free
Hot on the heels of Gothenburg’s partnership with Volvo Cars to make Gothenburg carbon-free, Stockholm has agreed the Elektrifieringspakt (Electrification Pact) together with Ellevio, Scania and Volkswagen. The four will endeavor to provide options for Stockholmers to switch from fossil transport to fossil-free electrified transport. One key factor will be charging for EVs. In the city's company Stockholm Parkering, at least 50% of the spaces for new production of parking must be provided with charging options.
But, the capitals politicians assert that they can not achieve the goal of carbon-free transport alone. Support from national policy is needed. Outdated laws and regulations that slow down the transition must be revised and support systems developed much faster than today. Not least, we must ensure that Stockholm's electricity system has sufficient capacity to support a broad and rapid electrification of the transport sector.
