Vestas buys 25% of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners

Through its investment in Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Vestas aims to further expand its presence in renewable project development, and invest within areas of the renewables value chain that lie beyond its existing activities. This will see Vestas building a new pathway to value creation, whereby it will access the long-term returns generated by renewable energy projects. As part of the agreement, Vestas is investing in a new "Energy Transition" fund managed by CIP. The fund will focus on Power-to-X and other technologies that can accelerate the rollout of renewable energy.

The deal has a value of €500 million, equivalent to just over 3.7 billion kroner. The purchase price consists of €180 million (1.3 billion DKK) at the completion of the transaction and €320 million (2.4 billion DKK) as earnout.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners was established in 2012 as a fund management company to invest in various types of infrastructure. The company currently manages projects with a value of DKK 104 billion - a figure that is planned to increase to DKK 558-744 billion in 2030.

AP Møller invests DKK 150 million in hydrogen business

AP Møller, says hydrogen is an important part of the future energy mix in shipping. Now AP Møller Holding will invest DKK 150 million into Green Hydrogen Systems, which specializes in sustainable production of hydrogen. With the investment, Green Hydrogen Systems will start upscaling the company with, among other things, a sales organization and investment in its factory. Nordic Alpha Partners, which is the main shareholder of Green Hydrogen Systems, says the company is already talking to advisers about a potential IPO.

CICERO to research the climate effects of hydrogen emissions

CICERO, is a Norwegian institute for interdisciplinary climate research. According to Maria Sand, a researcher at CICERO, there is a huge interest in hydrogen as part of the energy solution of the future. "There is a lot of research on how hydrogen can be used, but we know little about what happens when hydrogen is released into the air. Before we embark on a large-scale transition to a hydrogen society, it is important to examine carefully and as soon as possible how increased use of hydrogen will affect both the climate and the environment."

The HYDROGEN project will produce important knowledge that can help politicians and other decision-makers see both the advantages and disadvantages of more use of hydrogen. The project is supported by the Research Council of Norway, and will last until the summer of 2024. The project also includes Equinor, Gassco, the Norwegian Shipowners' Association, Shell and Statkraft, as well as researchers from the United Kingdom, the United States and France.

Insplorion's rights issue heavily oversubscribed

Insplorion is a Swedish company, with a proprietary sensor platform, NanoPlasmonic Sensing (NPS), which currently has three main branches of operation relevant for the energy transition - battery, air quality and hydrogen sensors. Because of the sensors’ high sensitivity, robust character and possibility for miniaturization, NPS is well suited for rough environments in the field, industry or in corrosive environments, like inside a battery.

The rights issue in Insplorion closed on December 15, 2020, with the subscription rate in the rights issue amounting to 307%. Through the issue, Insplorion will receive SEK 30.3 million before transaction costs.

Christmas break

This is the last publication of Nordic Green for the year. What a year it has been. Corona is the obvious issue, but closer to home the pace of climate transformation in Nordic economies has been even higher than we imagined when we set out.

We will be taking a few weeks off to recharge batteries and think about where to take things in 2021. Meanwhile, if you have views of where you would like to see broader or deeper coverage, please write to us at sean@mundus-international.com

God Jul!
