Ørsted partners with BP on German hydrogen project

Ørsted has joined forces with BP on a hydrogen project that will consist of a 50 MW electrolysis plant at BP's Lingen refinery in northwestern Germany. The plant, which is expected to be put into operation in 2024, will be able to produce almost 9000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, reducing the refinery's consumption of grey hydrogen by 20%. The project has a long-term ambition to build a capacity of more than 500 MW of renewable hydrogen at Lingen. It is expected that the electrolysis plant will be supplied with electricity from one of Ørsted's offshore wind farms in the North Sea. Ørsted and BP have jointly applied for funding for the project from the EU Innovation Fund.
