Norway will be the first country to enter into a partnership in the American industrial coalition First Movers Coalition. The partnership was entered into in connection with the US special envoy for climate change, John Kerry's meeting with Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Christian Vestre on Friday 6 May.
The Coalition is a US-led initiative to help accelerate the development of markets for new, sustainable technologies. Aker and Yara are among the initial participants from the Norwegian side, with participating companies committed to establish and accelerate the development of markets for new technology that are crucial in the transition to the zero-emission society.
According to the US Special Envoy for Climate Change, John Kerry, “The partnership will be a contribution to reducing emissions from the most demanding sectors of the global economy.”
Norwegian Government press release
Scatec, a Norwegian solar power developer, reported its 1Q22 financial results today, which were deeply in the red. Total revenues were down to NOK 759 million from NOK 831 million in the same period last year. Including the results from the subsidiaries, revenue was NOK 1.01 billion and the operating profit before depreciation (ebitda) was NOK 398 million. In the same period last year, revenues were NOK 954 million and EBITDA of NOK 636 million.
However, once including write-downs, Scatec made a pre-tax loss of NOK 1.01 billion, which was largely the effect of its Ukraine operations. Scatec has been a leading player in the development of renewable energy in Ukraine in recent years, operating five solar parks in the central and southern parts of the country. The customer is the Ukrainian state, which has bought the power on long-term contracts several years ahead. Despite the facilities being 95% operational, the volatile situation forced Scatec to make a writedown of NOK 770 million.
Scatec shares were down almost 15% over the day.
