Nio opens Europe’s first battery replacement station in Norway

The Chinese electric car company Nio has entered the European market and opened its first battery replacement station in Norway. The idea of the system is to give car owners alternatives to home charging, as not everyone lives where it is possible to have their own charger, as well as fast long-distance chargers which are not always as fast as the name implies. To be able to use the battery replacement stations, the customer must have chosen to subscribe to the battery. This makes the car purchase cheaper (NOK 519,000 instead of NOK 679,000), but in return, it costs NOK 1,999 per month for the 100 kWh battery. Today’s subscription includes 200 kWh and it costs NOK 2 per kWh.

550 TWh offshore wind farms planned in Sweden

According to new figures, there are applications for a total of 125 GW of installed offshore wind farms in Sweden, corresponding to an annual electricity production of approximately 550 TWh. This level is almost triple the amount of Sweden’s current electricity use of 135-140 TWh. The applications apply to projects in a total of 42 areas and are geographically based along the entire coast of Sweden. Foreign energy companies such as Danish Ørsted and Germany’s RWE as well as Swedish listed companies such as OX2, Eolus and Vattenfall are among the many companies that have announced plans for offshore wind power in Sweden. However, despite the great interest, no new large-scale offshore wind power is currently being built in Sweden.

“There is a huge and serious interest in offshore wind power in Sweden, but there are major obstacles where long and uncertain permit processes are the bottleneck. So far, the Swedish Armed Forces have, among others, said no to many offshore wind projects”, said Lina Kinning, responsible for offshore wind power at the industry association.
