Sweden’s Armed Forces are delaying the H2 Green Steel steelworks near Boden

H2 Green Steel’s projected steelworks by Boden may be delayed by up to 2.5 years because of an intervention by Sweden’s Armed Forces, which for a long time has had several key military installations in the Boden area. FM has now filed a formal opinion with the Land and Environment Court in Umeå stating that “special measures” will have to be taken before the steelwork may be established. The Armed Forces argue that the area where H2 Green Steel wants to build is land of special importance for Swedish national security. Its detailed reasoning is classified, but it is well known that there are a cluster of key fortifications in the Boden area which are vital to the defence of northern Sweden.
