New Danish centre invests in experts of the future for the burgeoning PtX sector

CAPeX is a newly established centre that aims to create new experts in the field of power-to-x (PtX) through a collaboration between several Danish universities as well as Stanford University, the University of Toronto, and Utrecht University. The centre will spend DKK 300 million towards creating over 100 new PtX experts over its lifetime of 13 years. The lack of experts in the field is one of the central challenges in Danish climate policy. CAPeX aims to bridge the gap between the industry and research to create the next generations of experts to take on global challenges.

Finnish companies carry out chemical recycling of hard-to-recycle plastic waste and manufacture new high-quality plastic pipes

Neste, Uponor, Wastewise, and Borealis have collaborated to produce cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) pipes using a chemical recycling method based on industrial plastic waste from PEX pipe production, resulting in high-quality polymers with the same properties as the original products. The project demonstrates the possibility of recycling even the most difficult-to-recycle plastic waste and closing the loop for PEX pipes. The entire value chain is traceable via an ISCC PLUS certified mass balance method. The collaboration aims to create a circular materials transition and use 100% of PEX waste as raw material in the long term.

Vattenfall invests in 76 MW agrivoltaic project in Germany

Vattenfall is investing in a 76 MW agrivoltaic project in Germany, which involves combining solar energy generation and agriculture on the same land. The project Tützpatz in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, will consist of over 200,000 solar panels spread over an area of about 162 hectares. This project is expected to be operational by 2025 and will produce enough renewable energy to power around 30,000 households - helping Germany meet its climate targets, which include expanding the use of renewable energy sources. Agrivoltaic projects like this one offer dual-use benefits, where the same land can be used for both energy production and agriculture, allowing farmers to continue using the land for crop production. The combination of solar energy generation and agriculture also creates a microclimate that can improve crop yields and reduce water consumption.
