Statkraft, Europe's largest renewable energy producer, is considering a stock market listing its electric vehicle charging operator Mer to raise SEK 3 billion and support the company's growth strategy. Mer, which offers both an extensive charging network and smart charging for commercial car fleets, housing associations and companies, has operations in five European countries and aims to make the shift to sustainable electric mobility easy and accessible to everyone. Electric mobility solutions are essential in the fight against climate change and are a crucial part of Europe's Green Deal and the EU's climate package Fit for 55. Statkraft has engaged Carnegie and SEB as financial advisors.
Vattenfall has acquired a wind power project in Sweden's Östra Göinge municipality from the former owner and developer Wanås Gods AB. The project consists of two sub-areas, Bivaröd and Tryggaröd, and has an estimated installed potential effect of 145 MW, with an annual production of approximately 450 GWh. This corresponds to fossil-free household electricity for 90,000 homes. Vattenfall plans to hold consultations at the end of the year and conduct deeper analyses of the conditions in the area.
Swiss energy company Axpo has acquired a 20 MW/20 MWh lithium-ion battery storage facility project in Landskrona, southern Sweden, from Swedish renewable energy developer RES and Scandinavian Capacity Reserve (SCR). SCR provides flexible electricity capacity to the Nordic market. The facility will be commissioned in 2024 and will be used to provide ancillary services to help balance the grid in the Landskrona region. The project is part of Axpo's plan to develop a significant volume of storage capacity in Europe by 2030. The local energy company, Landskrona Energi, will connect the battery storage to the grid.
A letter of intent has been signed by SSAB Europe and JanLa Oy to provide fossil-free steel to the roofing product solutions market in Finland, beginning in 2026. JanLa Oy, a Finnish sheet metal wholesaler, has announced that it will offer a roof product made of fossil-free steel in the future. This move is part of JanLa Oy's sustainable development goals and is in partnership with SSAB, which plans to introduce the world's first fossil-free premium steels on a commercial scale by 2026.
Vattenfall and Skellefteå Kraft have collaborated to produce a reality series called "Högspänning" or "High Voltage," which will premiere on March 27 on Viaplay and TV3. The show follows energy industry workers in their daily work, including those in high-voltage lines, hydroelectric plants and wind turbines. The aim of the show is to position the energy industry as an exciting, multifaceted and attractive industry to work in, and to address the need to recruit nearly 8,000 new technicians and engineers over the next three years.
