Renewable sources the solution for Finland’s doubled electricity needs

According to a recent report from the Finnish Climate Change Panel, Finland will have to double its electricity production to prepare for greater electrification of society. When industry, traffic and heating are electrified, an increasing part of the country’s final energy demand will be electric, instead of fossil fuels. Thus, the Finnish Climate Panel points to renewable sources such as wind- and hydropower as parts of the solution. Regulation of electricity consumption is further argued as one of the transitional factors that need to be reviewed in order to even out the peaks of electricity consumption.

Småkraft and SKL enter into hydrogen cooperation

Småkraft and Sunnhordsland Kraftlag (SKL) have entered into collaboration with Hydrogen Solutions on hydrogen production from small power plants. Hydrogen Solutions has developed scalable solutions for locally produced green hydrogen based on electrolysis of water using electrical energy. The production equipment and solutions are then adapted to different needs and can be scaled up from very small plants of a few hundred KW to large plants of several tens of MW.

“A collaboration between the companies means that we can position ourselves more directly in the market, and over large parts of the country. In addition to utilising existing small power production, the collaboration also opens up for the realisation of small power projects that have been put ‘on hold’ with a lack of grid connection”, said Småkraft CEO Terje Vedeler.
