RWE awarded Thor offshore wind farm tender after lottery to break tie

RWE won the lottery for Thor, the offshore wind farm tender offered by the Danish Energy Agency. RWE will pay the Danish state the maximum price of DKK 2.8 billion which is an average of DKK 2/kWh during the 30-year lifetime of the wind park – thus generating money for the state. The 1,000 MW offshore wind farm will break the record for Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm, which is significantly larger than the current holder, the 604 MW Kriegers Flak wind farm. Additionally, Thor will be the first Danish wind farm to be built without any support from the state as it will be profitable from Day One (Press release, press release).

Another pyrolysis actor enters the Danish market 2022

Yet another Danish pyrolysis facility is to be built by 2022 in a collaboration between British Malstrom Reactor Technologies and the Danish start-up Circular Plastic Systems. The facility, to be built in Frederiksværk, aims at recycling household plastic and recycling it into crude oil. Malstrom owns both the facility and the pyrolysis technology used in the facility. Circular Plastic Systems pledges to use the facility by 2027 (Plast Forum).

EU partnership for clean hydrogen launched

In association with the European Hydrogen Week in Brussels, the Clean Hydrogen Partnership was launched in order to offtake all of the current operations of FCH JU (Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking). The EU will support the partnership with EUR 1 billion between 2021 and 2027 and complemented with similar support from private investors by private members of the partnership. Together with The Hydrogen Alliance, the partnership will contribute to reaching the EU’s hydrogen strategies for a climate neutral Europe, with a focus on production, distribution, storage and delivery of green hydrogen (Brintbranschen).

Ørsted expands cooperation with Amazon

Following a signed CPPA and two PPAs with Google and Johnson & Johnson respectively, Ørsted announced two new CPPAs totalling 116 MW of mixed onshore- and offshore wind capacity – expanding their cooperation. Amazon will offtake 100 MW from Borkum Riffgrund 3 Offshore Wind Farm in Germany, added to the already signed 250 MW CPPA signed in December 2020. Additionally, Amazon will offtake 16 MW from Ballykeel Onshore Wind Farm in Northern Ireland. Ørsted has signed a total of 1.764 MW offshore wind CPPAs in the last two years and signed 1.350 MW onshore wind CPPAs since May 2020 (Press release).

Advanced Soltech signs two orders in China: Generates SEK 18.8 million

Advanced Soltech’s subsidiary in China recently signed two orders – one with DaYang Textile and Garment Co. Ltd. and one with Wuhu Zhongyuan New Composite Material Co. Ltd. – expected to generate circa SEK 0.98 million in annual revenue during the 20-year contract period (circa SEK 18.8 million total). The order regards the installation of two 1.15 MW solar power facilities with a total investment amounting to SEK 7.2 million. Construction of the facility is planned to start in 2022 (Q1) in the Anhui Province (Press release).
