Stockholm, April 15, 2026 – In Stockholm’s emerging district of Norra Djurgårdsstaden, a 19th-century gasworks is being transformed into one of Europe’s most ambitious new cultural venues.
Opening in 2027, Gasometer has already secured the Royal Swedish Opera as its first anchor tenant. The venue now takes another major step with the announcement that renowned Swedish chef Stefan Eriksson will define and steward its gastronomic vision.
Eriksson will shape Gasometer’s restaurants, bars and overall food-and-beverage identity, aiming to redefine what dining can mean at a large-scale cultural venue. At a time when arena hospitality is rarely treated as a destination in its own right, Gasometer is setting out to raise the bar by bringing gastronomy, architecture, live performance and audience experience together in a single, integrated whole.
One of Sweden’s most respected chefs, Stefan Eriksson is best known internationally as one of the figures behind Brutalisten in Stockholm, the widely acclaimed restaurant recognized for its singular creative vision. In Sweden, he is also known as the winner of Chef of the Year (Årets Kock) 2005 and the creator of the 2008 Nobel dinner menu. Throughout his career, he has played a leading role in shaping contemporary Swedish gastronomy.
At Gasometer, his role will extend beyond a standalone restaurant concept. He will lead the development of the venue’s broader gastronomic direction, from its restaurants and bars to the food-and-beverage experience across the destination as a whole.
“I am both humbled and delighted by the opportunity to help shape Gasometer’s gastronomic identity. It is rare to work on a project where food, culture and the audience experience are so closely connected from the outset. That is what makes this such an inspiring challenge,” says Stefan Eriksson.
Gasometer is being developed in the historic former gasworks area of Norra Djurgårdsstaden and will serve as the Royal Swedish Opera’s temporary home in the coming years. The project is part of a broader ambition to establish a new cultural landmark in Stockholm, where live performance, gastronomy and architecture come together at an international level.
“Stefan Eriksson is one of Sweden’s most respected and progressive names in gastronomy. His ability to combine produce, craftsmanship and experience is exactly what Gasometer needs. His appointment says a great deal about the level of ambition we have for food and beverage as part of this destination,” says Satu Andersson, CEO of Gasometer.
With Eriksson now on board, Gasometer takes an important step toward becoming not only a major new stage for culture but also a venue that rethinks hospitality at scale.
