Today, Kläppen Ski Resort opens a unique autumn park built from famed snow. The record-breaking opening is possible thanks to the 50,000 cubic metres of farmed snow from the winter season. The autumn park in Kläppen Snowpark, together with Kläppen Arena, will create a perfect training park for both national team skiers and freeski and snowboard enthusiasts.
Kläppen Ski Resort is passionate about creating conditions for activity and movement. Promoting sport in Sweden and surrounding countries has always been close to the heart of Kläppen's CEO Gustav Eriksson. The autumn park is the first step in a snowfarming project that he wants to streamline and develop in the future.
- The vision is to farm so much snow that we can bring forward the opening of the entire Kläppen Snowpark during the winter season. But it feels fantastic to already be the first in Scandinavia to offer skiing and snowboarding on snow. This opening also means that we are the earliest opening ever in Sälenfjällen," says Gustav Eriksson, CEO of Kläppen Ski Resort.
Kläppen Snowpark is the national arena for the Swedish Freeski and Snowboard National Team. The new expanded training opportunities that the autumn park creates at home will give our young Swedish talents the chance to develop even more. From a sustainability perspective, this also means less travelling.
- We are of course very excited. As far as I know, this will be the only place in the world where you can combine rail riding on saved snow and airbag jumping at this time of year. It's an incredible opportunity for our riders and is completely in line with our strategy to build world-class sports at home," says Stefan Karlsson, sports director for the national teams in Snowboard and Freeski.
In addition to the national team, the students of the National Sports High School in Malung will train at Kläppen. From Thursdays to Sundays, the autumn park will be open to the public and everyone who wants to practice park skiing on snow.
- On Monday 25 September, we will uncovered the canvases from the savings pile. We did about two days of rough excavation followed by four days of construction and shaping of the park. We meet our goal is to build a rail park with about 12 to 15 features of varying degrees of difficulty," says Henrik Björk, operations manager at Kläppen Ski Resort.
The autumn park was ready on Monday 2 October and will now open to the public today on the 5th of October.
Kläppen Snowpark is well known within the park elite and over the years has received several awards, one of which is Sweden's best park. It was Gustav Eriksson, himself a member of the Swedish elite, who started the project for the 00/01 winter season. Nowadays, the park is designed by the Kläppen snowpark team led by Daniel Alkefjärd, park manager at Kläppen Ski Resort. The annual investment for the park concept is around SEK 5 million and a total of almost 280,000 cubic metres of snow is shovelled. During the winter season, Kläppen Snowpark is the training arena for many famous park profiles, the Swedish national team and world athletes from near and far. Some of Sweden's and Norway's most notable athletes who are usually seen here are Sven Thorgren, Henrik Harlaut, Jesper Tjäder, Oliwer Magnusson, Kim Boberg, Marcus Kleveland and Mons Roisland among others.
Kläppen Ski Resort is located in Sälenfjällen and is Sweden's largest family-owned ski resort with 38 slopes, 21 lifts and 37 kilometres of cross-country ski trails. Kläppen has Sweden's best snow guarantee and a snow park that has been named the country's best for several years in a row. Families with children come here every year to enjoy skiing in four directions.
