New album from composer LUCHS today

Patrik Berg Almkvisth, the Swedish composer behind the name LUCHS, is releasing his second album today.

Today on April 1st the Swedish composer LUCHS (Patrik Berg Almkvisth) is releasing his second album of contemporary classical music. Från Dagar Av Vila (From Days of Rest) is both written and produced by Berg Almkvisth himself. He describes the album as a collection of musical novels with a different theme for each piece, the common thread being the theme of rest.

– When deciding on a title for the album it struck me that all of the pieces were written without the intention of writing music. In my daily work as a composer and producer I sit down and create a space for the music to appear, but in these cases it has been the other way around. The music has sought me out and pulled me along. All of them are conceived on free days, with the mere part of the ideas being written on Saturdays. The resting day, Berg Almkvisth says.

The debut album by LUCHS named Solskur arrived in 2020. It was written for an orchestra and was recorded with parts of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. But this time around he wanted to return to a more minimalistic approach and center the piano in his pieces. Through a collaboration with Steinway & Sons he was able to acquire a K-132 piano, which the new album was recorded on.

During the last few years Berg Almkvisth has been involved in several musical projects. In February he released the song Window In The Clouds with the Swedish pop duo JUNG and held a sold out solo concert at the Nobel Prize Museum in Stockholm. He has also been collaborating musically with the actor Dacre Montgomery, known from Stranger Things.

Patrik Berg Almkvisth began his musical journey early in life and later continued his musical education at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden. He released his first music as LUCHS in 2016, and has since gained attention both in his home country of Sweden as well as internationally. Today his music has over 310 millions streams on Spotify. Besides creating music under LUCHS, he also composes music for film, tv and commercials. He is also working as an actor, mainly in the field of voice acting.

The album Från Dagar Av Vila (From Days of Rest) is released today on April 1st via 1631 recordings and distributed by Decca (UK) and Universal (WW). You can listen to the album here.
