Demonstrating entrepreneurial spirit and community engagement, Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey (GSCSNJ) Troop 41012 made a lasting impression at the Flyers versus Avalanche game on Saturday, January 20th.

The troop, which includes Cadettes in grades 6-8 and Brownies in grades 2-3, was among several regional troops invited to operate a cookie booth at the game. This activity is part of the Girl Scout Cookie Program, the largest girl-led entrepreneurial initiative, teaching business planning, financial literacy, and interpersonal selling skills.

As the doors opened and during intervals until the second intermission, Girl Scout Troop 41012 engaged with attendees throughout the game, selling more than 250 boxes of cookies! Their experience, however, extended beyond sales, focusing on creating lasting memories with their friends. The girls had the opportunity to meet Gritty, the Flyers mascot, and interact with the team's cheerleaders, adding to their exciting experience.

The success of Troop 41012 at the game is a testament to their hard work and commitment. The Girl Scout Cookie Program is designed as an educational venture, imparting young girls valuable life and business skills.  Through “learning by earning,” Girl Scouting aims to empower girls through the development of five essential skills: goal setting, money management, people skills, decision-making, and business ethics.

Proceeds from the cookie sales directly benefit the troop and their community. Funds are often used for activities such as STEM programs, outdoor adventures, and community service projects, contributing to both personal development and community betterment.

The achievement of Troop 41012 is not only measured by the number of boxes sold but also by the skills they practiced and the fun they had.
