Cherry Hill, NJ (April 24, 2023) – The Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey (GSCSNJ) is excited to announce that it has been awarded two grants from the Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC), through an announcement made on Friday by Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin. These grants will provide GSCSNJ with over $40,000 to expand its summer program for underserved youth across Middlesex, Mercer, Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Salem, and Atlantic counties. With this funding, GSCSNJ will be able to serve 80 additional girls in its one-week leadership program and help bolster the next generation of women leaders in Central and Southern New Jersey. The organization is proud to have been selected as one of only 17 awardees across the State which received a portion of the funds offered by JJC.

Through the program girls gain incredible skills and self-knowledge through this girl-led program.  Through a mixture of hands-on learning, collaboration with peers, and activities such as archery, water sports, zip lines, and climbing rock walls, girls discover who they are, what they care about, and how to use their unique talents.  Finally, the program encourages girls to take action to make the world a better place.

“Girls today are not spending enough time outdoors. Girls benefit greatly from outdoor experiences and engaging in adventures. Our studies show that when girls take on the outdoors, they gain valuable skills such as problem-solving, resilience to challenges, and teamwork - all of which contribute towards building a better future for their community.” says Ginny Hill, CEO of GSCSNJ.

“GSCSNJ is incredibly grateful for the trust and support of the Juvenile Justice Commission. For over 110 years, Girl Scouts has been empowering young women to become courageous individuals who can make a lasting difference in their community. Addressing issues concerning equity and gender discrimination remain at our core values – which makes these grants all the more meaningful as it allows us to expand our program by providing guidance and mentorship opportunities to 40 extra girls living in Central New Jersey and an additional 40 girls living in South Jersey.” continues Ginny Hill.
